macOS (possibly BSD) doesn't have libuuid by default

On Mac you can get hold of it via brew install ossp-uuid but it's not there by default. Then once you do have a libuuid the tests all fail because of case sensitivity.

Should tests be case-insensitive?

With libuuid installed in osx via brew install ossp-uuid I'm getting
