Might as well change RD_contains to icontains. It's a bit clearer & cleaner than RD_contains and still doesn't overwrite originally function.

icontains is a relatively standard way of writing "case-insensitive contains".

Recommend appending to a detached node then swapping the contents when complete for for a single DOM operation vs. one for each iteration.

I'm willing to submit a patch.

Change by Brian LePore to add a class to the input when the datalist is open or not. I don't think I'm gonna merge it in as it's not really part of a true polyfill, but I could see it as being useful so leaving the code here:

I'd love to use this on all my sites, but we don't use jQuery or Modernizr and that's a lot of extra code (and page memory) to include just to get this functionality.

Please consider creating a standalone version.
