arch-linux-issues's Issues

Make a calculator app

Right now I'm just using vim and bc. I should make a simple calculator app because there are surprisingly few simple calculator apps on linux that don't require whole suites of GUI packages.

Prevent file marks ('M) from jumping to window if file is open there

In nvim, if I have multiple files open on different buffer splits, if I jump to a mark in a file (ie: 'M) that is already opened in a different buffer split, rather than jumping to the other split, jump to that file in the same split. This is because if I'm jumping to that file in the current split, I'm trying to have it open in that split. If I wanted to go to the other split, I would navigate there manually.

Dunnst notification buttons

Need to look into adding buttons? to dunnst notifications. I think sometimes notifications appear via chrome extensions or whatever that usually have some action on them. Need to figure out when this happens how to show these buttons and keep the notification on screen longer.

Set up google music

Really I need to look into the pros and cons of switching from Spotify to Google Music, but I do like a lot of it's features, mainly the syncing downloaded music to the cloud. Quick google search shows it doesn't have a public api though.

Learn groff/latex

I would like to be able to create documents from the command line and I think these are some of the tools recommended by Luke Smith.

launch urls from dmenu

I'd like to be able to have some kind of command (maybe ">") in dmenu to launch a url or a google search on that term so that way I don't have to open a chrome window each time I want to search something.

Dmenu client for spotify

This would be neat, if I could just use the dmenu bar to search for a song and play it from there.

Show volume % when changing volume

Right now I use xbindkeys to map the volume controls on my mouse/keyboard to amixer commands to raise/lower the volume. This seems to work (for headphones at least) but I would like to add some kind of visual indicator of what level my volume is at when changing it.

Figure out DWM flashing/black screen bug

Sometimes in the mornings I'll notice that on my right monitor (intel graphics) the screen will be flashing on and off (black screen) slowly. I have no idea why, but its only annoying since I can clear it by dragging a window around the screen or switching to a different tag.

Set up mutt

Do I really even want to use mutt? I would like a command line email client with vim like bindings and this seems to be the only viable candidate, however I don't know if it supports filtering emails into Inbox/Promotions/Updates/Forum categories like gmail does, or if I'd have to create my own sorting algorithm (if mutt even supports that).

Should look into how feasible it would be to make my own CLI email client...

RSS Feed ticker

I think it would be cool to have an RSS feed customized to my liking (probably news and stocks) along the bottom of the screen, most likely. Maybe I can use dmenu or something to this extent.

Change behavior of dwm mouse hover

Mouse hover on windows should not select the window by default. Change this behavior so you have to click on the window to select it.

HTC Vive on linux

I don't know how viable this is considering I don't even know if there a lot of VR games that work on linux also, but at the very least I'd like to get the vive to work on linux to possibly use for game development.

DWM shortuts

  • make Win+tilde to got next tag
  • make Win+Shift+tilde to got prev tag
  • shortcut to resize gappx
  • shortcut to toggle gappx

Vim like bindings in st

Use vim like bindings (similar to termite) for navigating st output. Might be possible to simply pass st output to nvim.

View dunst history

It would be nice to have an "Action Center" where I can view recent dunst notifications.

Cool-Retro-Term colors

See if I can adjust the colors of it to match my theme better. It works for now, but might now if I change it to a different theme later.

AI Voice Assistant

I'd like to set up an AI Voice assistant, similar to Cortana on Windows.

I've done a little bit of research into this and found that Mycroft as a possible candidate.

Add title bar buttons to DWM

There might be a patch for this, but even still, I might like a custom solution. Middle mouse click on the title bar seems to switch between the last two windows. I might want to repurpose this to close the window instead. Also look into making the right lick menu a dmenu option for min/max/close.

emoji keyboard

And just better emoji support in general. I think Luke Smith has a video on this on youtube.

Surf browser

This has been an on and off project of mine, but I'd like to get surf set up as my default browser, if possible.

There are a few things that need to be done:

  • Creating a surf repository for all of my patches
  • Patching surf with chromebar feature
  • Figuring out how to use an adblocker on it
  • Make sure youtube videos work (I think this was an issue last time)
  • Figure out a password manager for it, similar to chrome's Password Manager

Set up wifi

I have a wifi card in my desktop but I've never had to use it since I'm always connected via ethernet. I'm not sure if it even detects it or how to use it so I should look into setting it up just to be sure I have a backup option for connecting to the internet if I need to.

Add more options for mouse-only navigation

DWM right now is pretty reliant on keyboard use for opening applications. It would be nice to have a way to click on the dwm bar to pull up dmenu of an alphabet for all applications to browse through. Can you click on dmenu items? (no, but is it a supported feature?)

Better fetch

It would be cool if I could show the currently playing song in (screen) fetch on terminal startup, otherwise show the arch logo. Also should clean up the stats there too and make sure its accurate.

In order to show images though I would need to get something like w3m. Waiting on tats/w3m#92 (need to look more into this)

Make a better status bar

There are a few features I want to add to dwmstatus (and I'm not opposed to using something else. I should look into polybar or lemonbar)

  • show icons on the left
  • add wifi signals (need to finish #7 first)
  • show time (HH:MM PM) in the center
  • have seconds indicated by blinking ":" at least, possibly a "loading bar" underneath the time to indicate each passing minute.
  • volume icon on the right
  • option to click on volume icon to bring up pavucontrol?
  • mini calendar (like in windows; show the current date) maybe have this link with #13
  • when changing windows, display the last active window title for 5 seconds before fading, or while hovering over the title bar
