Welcome to the comma.ai Programming Challenge!

Your goal is to predict the speed of a car from a video.

• data/train.mp4 is a video of driving containing 20400 frames. Video is shot at 20 fps.
• data/train.txt contains the speed of the car at each frame, one speed on each line.
• data/test.mp4 is a different driving video containing 10798 frames. Video is shot at 20 fps.

Deliverable

Your deliverable is test.txt. E-mail it to [email protected], or if you think you did particularly well, e-mail it to George.

Evaluation

We will evaluate your test.txt using mean squared error. <10 is good. <5 is better. <3 is heart.

Downloaded Files, MP4 Files not working

Hello,
I downloaded the files, unzipped it, and tried to open the .mp4 files.
But it gives the error below:
Can't play
This file isn’t playable. That might be because the file type is unsupported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt.

Dataset license

I was wondering what license this dataset uses, as I'd like to use it for a project of mine.

broken video file

The video file train.mp4 appears to be broken. OpenCV throws the following error :

[mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2 @ 0x7fe761817c00] moov atom not found

Can this be fixed ?

Why use a camera in the first place?

I recently came across this challenge and am really interested in trying to solve this problem.

I have a question about the motivation though.

Why are we trying to predict the car speed using a camera in the first place?
The speedometer will always be a better source of this information won't it?
And cars always have a speedometer, so why?

Is there a way to convert the speed to km/h?

What is the unit of the speed in the train.txt file?

I am confused about the unit of speed found in the train.txt file. Is it mph (mile per hour) ou mps (meter per second)?
