Build

It should just compile with XCode. There are two caveats, though:

• We have our dev certificate setup in the project so you need to remove that or replace it with your own
• The App Store build includes the Sentry crash reporter. The private key is defined in the SentryConfig.h which is not included in the source. There is a SentryConfig_Example.h that you can use for your own Sentry account. Or you can delete all references to it alltogether and remove the import from Tincta-AppStore-Prefix.pch

Suddenly can't open a file

After a recent security update now Tincta can't open a file, I get permissions error:

Permission needed

You do not have sufficient rights to open the file "Add record to sqlite.py". You can authenticate as another user or admin to gain access.
Be careful modifying system files as this might cause severe demage [sic].

If I click the 'Authenticate' button nothing happens and it opens a blank document.
I am attempting to open this file by running an Applescript, which always worked in the past. I added Tincta to
Security>Full Disk Access
but it didn't fix it.

Closing with red x doesn't reopen files

When I right click on the icon in the dock and quit, then reopen tincta, my previously opened files are opened again. When I close with the red x button, which i think doesn't fully quit, then reopen by click on the tincta icon, my previously opened files are not opened and I have a new untitled file opened instead.

I am using and 2021 macbook pro 16-inch with macOS Monterey Version 12.1

Request: Structure Line Function

Hi,

Is it possible to add the structure line as the attached screenshot? I like the function so much as it makes the code much easier to read.

Allow displaying labels to toolbar items

That's a design dilemma. We prefer the icons only as most other apps have it today (Firefox, Safari, Finder...). We would like to have it customizable but that would also allow you to change the icon size, which does not work well at the moment. Maybe we can add a checkbox in the preferences.

Crash on shift+tab

When moving indentation for a line with tab (add indentation) or shift+tab (remove indentation), Tincta will crash if the line is empty.

How to replicate: With a document open in Tincta, press shift+tab on an empty line
Expected behavior: Indentation should remain the same (none) and application should not crash.

Example recording. Tab right twice, shift+tab three times.

Help menu link to website is wrong

When I clicked GO TO WEBSITE from the HELP TAB, it comes back not found. https://wokabulary.com/software/tincta

Tincta occasionally freezes even with short files

I was typing in Tincta (version 4.2), single open file, for about 40 minutes, about 95 lines of code. Plenty of memory. Not using any menus or special key combo, etc, just simply typing. Tincta became unresponsive and I had to force quit. I recall this happening before, so it happens occasionally. I am using an older system (Mac OS 10.11) so it may be related to that. Probably not relevant but the language selection was Haskell.

Broken alignment between line numbers and editor

When adding emojis the alignment between the line numbers and the editor brake. Maybe a font issue but I tested it with Monaco, Menlo and Comic Mono (see screenshot).

Tincta gets frozen when system wakes up

I recently downloaded Tincta and I am enjoying using it.
But every time I wake-up my Mac, Tincta gets frozen and mouse cursor shows loading forever when I touch its scroll bar. And my previous un-saved changes are all gone when I force-quit it.
I am not 100% sure why it's happening but I guess there's some loading time in Tincta and I broke it when I clicked the scroll bar on the right.

fast surrounding of selected texts with brackets and quotation marks

As a user, if I have selected text and press a bracket/brace key or a quotation mark key I want the selected text surrounded with the corresponding opening and closing brackets or the quotation mark respective.

"Open In Browser" Command & Toolbar does not function

Greetings!
I wanted to tweak some HTML code, which opens just fine AND the color coding works perfectly, but I can't get it to open in my browser(s)...

Haven't used in a long time, still thinks its a bad ass app!...

Autocomplete Quotations is always on

Whether or not the Preferences check box for Autocomplete Quotations is checked or not, typing a single or double quote always creates two such glyphs with the cursor in the middle. My expectation is that with the box unchecked, only a single glyph should be produced.

Not responding anymore on windows resize

When I resize the windows and I have a file opened, sometimes the app freeze and never respond anymore.
I have to kill the app and I loose my work since the last save.

Auto-Complete for quotation marks

As a user I want a option so that the editor to insert 2 quotation marks with the cursor in between when I press the quotation mark key.

find and replace bar while using system dark mode

when I use the system dark mode, the search and replace bar is not adapting the colours right which makes it really hard to read anything written in there.

Command line tool

Hope tincta could support opening files from the terminal

Use R syntax coloring for .Rmd as well as .R

R Markdown is a popular form of literate programming, supported in RStudio. It uses the extension .Rmd

It would be nice if Tincta would use R syntax coloring for .Rmd files. So in FileExtensions.plist, the section would say:

Tests don't run

The test scheme is not functional, also there still exist tests for code that is not there anymore (like the Upgrade Controller)

Preferences Toolbar Icons broken on Big Sur

For some reason, the toolbar icons in the Preferences window don't load on Big Sur.

Memory leak after opening a big JSON

After opening a 6MB JSON file Tincta starts to leak memory like crazy (>40GB out of 8 physical). I didn't checked with disabled syntax highlighting, but even with it this is not normal.

Tincta is logging exception when starting

Tincta tries to set the first responder to a view in a window that does not exist when starting. This throws an exception

Not a Native M1 app yet?

4.1 is shown in the App Store as having native support for the Apple M1. However it is still showing as an Intel-based app within the System info.

Fonts

Selecting text then changing font and/or font size has no effect on the selected text.

Not really an issue, or at least yet..
Im still waiting for other softwares to make Big Sur compatible versions, but I have no info on Tincta; has anyone tested it on Big Sur?

Feature request: Sort selected text asc/desc, with numbers handled as numbers vs text (option?).

Some crashes in a NSRulerView (LineNumbers)

The LineNumberView causes crashes in it's draw method because of a substringWithRange call that is out of bounds.

Since every call to substringWithRange is checked by the TCAMiscHelper isRange:inBoundsOfString: this method is probably also not correct.

Add new code language to Tincta

Need to add new syntax coloring to Tincta for ABAP. Is there a way to do that, either importing the format and / or creating it directly on it?

When scrolling out of view, screen bounces, console logs a malloc

When the user scrolls further down that possible, the scroll view bounces while a malloc exception gets thrown in TCALineNumberView. Probably this is related to all the crashes in line number view.

Transparency in side bar too high

Since Mac OS X Lion the side bar is very transparent which makes it hard to see if a open file is changed but not saved or already saved.

Missing CMD-E "Use Selection For Find" menu / key command

There are a few others missing as well, but this is the one I notice the most.

CMD-E places the currently selected text into the find buffer without replacing the copy / paste buffer. Very handy!

I think you just need to add the menu item, but not sure with your custom search bar.

Moving the cursor

I think the general problem is that there is no user manual or online help for Tincta (Help/Go to website yields an error 404), but my concrete question is: Is there a shortcut key which would allow me to move the cursor to the beginning or ending of the line? Currently, I have to place it using the mouse or repeatedly press the left/right arrow key, both not being very convenient.

Tincta malfunctions on Big Sur

After downloading Big Sur on my Mac, Tincta fails to fully open. I get a basic text editing-type screen. The icons are small squares with question marks in the center. Is Tincta now compatible with Big Sur?
