Did a first stab at this. Not sure if there are any other request errors we ought to catch. Another problem with the current approach is limited feedback for the user, there is no difference in the validator message for request errors vs. invalid URIs.
Possibly wait for Fingertips/nap#6 because it makes it easier to react on a whole category of request errors.
