I am having the same issue.
The annoying thing is we are launching the system this week at church! Doh!
NB I BACKUP everytime.
When I close and reopen FREESHOW all my PROJECTS disappear - and the original "Folder" and "example project" resets.
I think the cloud may possibly be the issue. I have tried diligently to sync and have gone over your instructions multiple times without any success. So I switched Auto sync OFF. I cleared all the other fields just in case too, eg, main folder, media path ID.
The KEY "Syncing with Cloud" saves and then the Sync Spinner never stops. Sometimes there is an error "" and sometimes there is none.
PS. "CLOUD SYNC" may need a better troubleshooting article. Thanks.

I will look into it. I guess it's caused by the cloud sync.
