• There should be a sidebar with links to view posts by category.
• Category pages would also have this same sidebar.

This is unnecessary, the date is enough information!

The current method of deployment for this website is less than satisfactory as it requires the _site directory to be not in .gitignore and has to work round GitHub pages only publishing from the master branch.

I use Hugo academic theme for my website.

I read your comment and code on HugoBlox/hugo-blox-builder#1520 (comment) - It worked like a charm.

I have a few follow up questions:

• Is it possible to adjust the width of the side TOC? say if I want to max-width to 300px?
• The code you illustrated makes the current topic highlighted in bold, is there a way to change that? say if I want the font to stay in regular, where should I look into?
