webjerk-snaps's Introduction

webjerk-snaps

website visual regression testing.

this package:

  • browses to a webpage via selenium
  • screenshots targeted CSS selectors, generating PNGs
  • creates a new reference image set or compares the new set to a reference set

this type of testing is somtimes also called CSS testing or screenshot testing.

don't like the way this package works? hack it! all things webjerk are small and modular. feel free to drop us an issue on GitHub with questions & comments too!

usage

API documentation lives here.

  • to get image baselines, create a config and run. see the #example section
  • run it!
    • all image basenames that are not present in the reference set become part of the reference set.
  • subsequent runs compare against these images

example

// test.js
'use strict'

var wj = require('webjerk')

wj.run({
  plugins: [
    {
      name: 'webjerk-snaps',
      config: {
        desiredCapabilities: [ // see webdriverio or selenium docs!
          { browserName: 'chrome' },
          { browserName: 'firefox' }
        ],
        url: 'http://localhost:3333', // what page to extract snaps from
        testName: 'screenshot-all-divs',
        snapDefinitions: [{ elem: 'div', name: 'best div' }], // OR,
        snapDefinitionsFromWindow: function queryDivSnapDefinitions (divs, message) {
          // @NOTE this JS is run in the _browser_ context
          // webdriverio JS serialziation requires semis. :/
          var divs = document.getElementsByTagName('div');
          var map = [];
          var i = 0;
          var tDiv;
          while (divs[i]) {
            tDiv = divs[i];
            if (!tDiv.id) tDiv.id = '__dummy_div_' + i;
            map.push({ elem: '#' + tDiv.id, name: tDiv.id });
            ++i;
          }
          return map;
        }
      }
    }
  ]
})

Action required: Greenkeeper could not be activated 🚨

🚨 You need to enable Continuous Integration on all branches of this repository. 🚨

To enable Greenkeeper, you need to make sure that a commit status is reported on all branches. This is required by Greenkeeper because it uses your CI build statuses to figure out when to notify you about breaking changes.

Since we didn’t receive a CI status on the greenkeeper/initial branch, it’s possible that you don’t have CI set up yet. We recommend using Travis CI, but Greenkeeper will work with every other CI service as well.

If you have already set up a CI for this repository, you might need to check how it’s configured. Make sure it is set to run on all new branches. If you don’t want it to run on absolutely every branch, you can whitelist branches starting with greenkeeper/.

Once you have installed and configured CI on this repository correctly, you’ll need to re-trigger Greenkeeper’s initial pull request. To do this, please delete the greenkeeper/initial branch in this repository, and then remove and re-add this repository to the Greenkeeper App’s white list on Github. You'll find this list on your repo or organization’s settings page, under Installed GitHub Apps.
