With the bot on your discord server, here is how to chat with a virtual character.

Getting the bot to join

1. With your own discord account that can use slash commands, join a voice channel that is accessible to everyone else on the server
2. Type /join
3. Select a character from the drop-down
4. Send the command

Now the bot should be in the voice channel with you.

Enabling a voice bot to listen to you

Before any voice bots will listen to you, you must run /voicebot listening enable. This enables the bot to listen to you, not affecting anyone else.

You can disable again at any time with /voicebot listening disable.

Any of your friends who wish to interact with a voicebot must also run /voicebot listening enable - they will simply not be heard otherwise.

Speaking with the bot

The bot will hear everything said by people it is listening to and remember them for that session (currently up to a certain amount).

• Bots may sometimes interject on their own, but to get their attention you must say their name

VC Bot values privacy.

Unlike other bots that have no way to opt-out, VC Bot is strictly opt-in for all of its features. It can't hear anything you say unless you enable it to hear you with /voicebot listening enable .

It is also secure by design and VC Bot is committed to never selling information, or using advertising, which is often at odds with privacy.

Bot upgrades

VC Bot has the concept of an inventory, which may contain modules.

The modules can be installed to bots in order for their effect to apply to them.

You can view your inventory with /inventory

There is a shop that contains new items each day. You can view it with /shop.

Items cost Attention Points, which can be earned via people interacting with your bots
