Apparently you can make the bot edit the previous message. This would help avoid it posting lots.

Discord only waits 3 seconds for the bot to respond. Google Cloud functions can take 2 seconds to boot up if they're cold so this causes timeout errors.

What can we do to reduce cold start time? Or should we change it so that the command is ACK'd immediately and another function registers and posts back to Discord?

The idea for emotes is that you need to first escape the message and then also provide the unique ID of the emote since the bot could have access to multiple : fox: emotes and can't know which one to choose without the ID. you will need to put something like this to display the emote iirc
