socialscriptura's Issues

Combine Bible selector and Bible Comment selector

Concern:
Why are there two selection sets? Why would I want to make a comment on Ezra 1:1-11 when I’m reading Genesis 1:1? I mean, sure, I might, but it seems edge case.

Actions:

  • Either remove or hide second selection set. Where should I put the verse to and end selector?

Forgot your password? is broken. Need to setup email.

concern:
If you go to Login >> Forgot your password? >> enter email address and submit, you will see: "We're sorry, but something went wrong.".

I never setup email for SocialScriptura. I think this is the main issue here.

actions:
Setup email for SocialScriptura.
Make sure Devise's "Forgot your password?" is set up correctly.
Make sure this works for Twitter and Facebook sign in users.

Revamp Landing Page

Concern: There’s no way for me to know what I’m getting into before I sign up—why should I give you my email address? The project doesn’t give me enough information to make an informed choice without giving information which could end up spamming me. There’s a purpose statement, but no support, examples, screenshots, etc.

Actions:

  • Change landing page to give more insight into what the website is. Include a couple of screenshots.

Concern:
The landing page states "The purpose of this website is to make it easy to read and share personal biblical commentaries with people you know. ". Is this website geared towards Pastors? I don't think I am qualified to write a commentary.

Actions:

  • Change “commentaries” to “notes” because it is less intimidating.

Concern:
When I make a comment, what is it’s scope? I made a comment on Ezra 1:1 (“In the beginning”) but don’t know if that’s a comment that only I can see, or if the whole world can see it.

Actions:

  • Include on the landing page that all comments can be seen by your friends only.

I just signed up, how do I find friends?

Concern:
How do I get friends? I mean, I’ve got a bunch of Twitter followers (and FB friends), but I don’t see a way to engage with them.

Actions:

  • After creating an account, redirect to list of users (/search without search term).

Note:

  • Currently, integration with Twitter and Facebook are just for single sign on purposes, but I would like to be able to post to Twitter and Facebook down the road. However, this is a larger user story then this issue.

If I sign in with Twitter or Facebook, why should I have to provide my email address?

Concern:
When creating an account I was offered the option of creating an account with Twitter, but my email address was required. I should either be allowed to create an account with just what the Twitter OAuth handshake will give you, or I don’t want to create my account that way—it feels bait-and-switch.

Actions:

  • Require either email address or sign in with Twitter/Facebook, not sign in with Twitter/Facebook and email.

SocialScriptura should remember what I last read in the bible

Concern:
Why do I always get dropped into Genesis 1:1 in the ASV? If I was in Hosea and logged out, I think I should go back to Hosea when I come in the next time—it would be great if that worked across devices, but at least on the same device. (Well, that kind of makes me wonder what users would want more—that the device has it’s own history, or that the history transfers seamlessly.)

Actions:

  • Remember where the user was in the Bible across devices/per user account.

Notifications on friend requests

Currently, there is no way to know when someone sends a friend request unless you go to the Community tab. I would like there to be a notification when someone sends a friend request. Maybe an exclamation mark over the community tab?

User profiles

Add user profiles so that you can see all of a user's posts.
