Installation

Download the installer for your operating system below. You can check this page for a more detailed guide.

Manual Installation

For normal users, installing via the installers makes the most sense. However when wanting to either develop BetterDiscord, or when the installers do not work, this option can be used. Please see our detailed documentation for a guide on how to do this.

Addons

Installing addons--like plugins and themes--is easy. All you need to do is select and download an addon from our website and put it in your folder. If you want some more details, or just prefer a visual guide, take a look at our tutorial on installing addons that includes a demonstration video.

Platform Support

BetterDiscord currently only supports standard local Discord installs. This means snap packages, portable apps, and the web version are all not supported.

Examples of supported platforms:

• Windows 7 and newer
• macOS Yosemite and newer
• Ubuntu 14.04 and newer

Themes not working

Like the title says, every theme I download doesn't show up in the themes tab.

Account-Bound-Settings(idea, local)

Could you add a feature what keeps themes, plugins and settings of each discord account seperated?
Im using Discord-Stable and DiscordCanary and each of them uses a different account, but have to use the same theme and plugin.

Smaller Names

After the latest update, everyone's usernames in the username panel and in chat are smaller than the normal text.

Status covering Profile pictures

Recently ive been getting this bug where the person's status colour covers 90% of the persons profile when I click on their names like this:

how do i fix this?

Twitch Emotes

Twitch emotes aren't showing in the emote menu.

BetterDiscord still hasn't loaded

My friend sent me a thing on discord to download BetterDiscord. It worked, but it isn't loading. Is there a way to fix this, its been loading for the past day now and I've tried refreshing discord and reinstalling BetterDiscord.

Bad performance.

Hey I've just installed since the official version on the better discord site wouldn't work at all for me and I've installed around 30 plugins recommended to me by a friend. I'm get pretty bad performance when hovering over channels, switching channels and servers etc it takes a second to catch up which shouldn't be happening on my PC.

Pretty confused, is it likely to be one of the plugins I installed or something else? Thanks.

[Question] Not seeing much activity on BDv2 (Github)?

This build of BetterDiscord is much cleaner and better then the standard build. It even survived through a Discord update!

However I'm worried because according to https://github.com/Jiiks/BetterDiscordApp/tree/v2 this branch hasn't really been worked on in a while. So what's up? (Sorry for posting this as an issue, wasn't sure how else to contact you.)

P.S. I hope we continue to see updates here as this really is much better then the standard BetterDiscord package.

It Doesn't Work No More

When I Updated Discord It Removed Better Discord and Then I Installed It Again It Didn't Work When It Finished

A few issues I have had.

First issue is for some time now in minimal mode the server icons has shrunk of the but the pictures inside of them have not
Without Minimal:

The second issue just started today were as before in minimal mod the messages in a chat channel would be shrunk and everything rized to a much smaller size but I loaded it up today and the sizes of the chat messages are not shrinking in size so with minimal mode on or off they are the same size.

Note: the only custom CSS I use is these three:

Which I've had since before these issues came up.

BetterDiscord Server

I'm not sure whats going on, (maybe it has too many members??) but when I try to join the BetterDiscord server for themes and such it doesn't join and just loads for 20sec before displaying no channels and no selected server? is the server bugged, or something I did wrong along the steps of installing?

When in Minimized mode you can't access settings.

Either i'm missing something or how do i exit this.

No longer working

With the two latest updates, my background no longer covers everything (only covers server channel lists now). Is this a general problem now or is it just me? How can I fix it?

Colored text not working

Ever since the newest Discord update, colored text hasn't been working

Minimal mode Issues

Apologies for showing more issues but since yesterday I've had a few more issues with minimal mod recently.

Starting yesterday after I restarted discord my channel icons were back to the normal size even when in minimal mode a picture of them with minimal mod on:

Also something I noticed is that before in minimal mod the messages were closer to the left and didn't have the space between the left side of the screen and the start of the messages. Not a huge thing but figured I'd mention it anyways.

discord canary forces update when modified

Currently whenever i install bbd, discord updates itself and theirfore looses bbd. is there anything we can do about that?

Trying to attach files crashes Discord completely.

Basically I have this issue (that I've had since BetterDiscord times) that whenever I try to attach files, sometimes it'll freeze the Discord completely and make it unresponsive.

This only seems to happen with BetterDiscord installed, I've also completely re-installed Discord over and over again (including with BetterDiscord and Bandaged BD, I've also made sure to clear out leftover files) but was never able to fix this issue, at least with BD installed.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is this an issue people are having in general? I'd really love to know.

Extracting Core.asar

My installer for windows is just stopping at extracting the core.asar file. Help?

Themes sometimes not working

Random parts of the UI sometimes don't want to be themed, at first it was the left side bar which somehow fixed itself and now after a while its this center part. It just stays the regular grey. This theme worked correctly until yesterday.

Things I've tried:

1. Reinstalling Discord
2. Reinstalling BetterDiscord
3. Disabling all plugins
4. Restarting discord with and without the theme.
5. Tried going into light and dark mode under "Appearance"
6. Removing and reapplying the theme

Can't use slash commands

So I'm not 100% sure if this is a BBD or BD issue to be honest, but seen as BBD is trying to fix/improve on BD I will start here and move to BD if this is not your issue.

Okay now to the actual issue:
When trying to use slash commands that does some kind of emote text (like /shrug, /tableflip, /unflip) I'm not able to send the message if I don't add any other text.
However without BBD, just plain vanilla Discord I'm able to do this.

Is this an issue that actually exist or am I just messing it up somehow?

BandagedBD is getting stuck on extracting the core

BetterDiscord isn't working and when I googled for some answers I found "Use BandagedBD", when I did it just got stuck on extracting the core. Can anyone help me with this?

Canary: Colored Text

Problem with colored text returned.

BetterDiscord doesn't show emotes, affect timestamps

I have the menu options for BetterDiscord and the loading icon shows in the right bottom hand corner when booting up Discord, but these two features don't work.

Plugins dont work

everytime i want to enable the GoogleTranslator plugin its not working - when I close the settings window its disabled again so like its not staying enabled

Discord crashes and won't start after deletion of all BetterDiscord files and re-install of Discord

I've deleted everything to do with BetterDiscord including installation files, executables, all the /AppData in both /Local and /Roaming and cleaned the registry after all this. I've reinstalled Discord several times and restarted my computer but for some reason Discord is still looking for BetterDiscord.

Any ideas?

BetterDiscord randomly stopped working

screen settings in the discord app

the settings in discord i did when i got better discord i was just messing around and i enabled something that i cant now un-enable if i uninstall better discord it is still like that and now i cant edit it like i cant go to where i can edit my name or log out i did something in core

24 hour timestamps not working

The 24hr timestamp option is not changing the timestamps, they are still showing as 12hr.

BandagedBD Not Installing

It's just stuck on extracting core, even after moving it to the Desktop and running it as admin.

Canary: Colored text

The colored text option in Core Settings doesn't function properly after the recent Canary updates. I have cycled the option, reinstalled BBD, and there have been a few updates since the problem first showed up. I waited a while to report as some issues resolve themselves in future updates but this time it seems to be persistent.

Not Working Anymore

When i try to install, it just says that is extracting core.asar and never ends it, what happened?

Emotes from alternating emote categories not working

When posting a message containing emotes from alternating emote sets, it doesn't seem to work as intended. For example this message:
Kappa KappaCool Kappa KappaCool Kappa KappaCool
It seems to be a bit "random" which category works, but for me all the Kappas (Twitch global) work, but only the last KappaCool. (BTTV) Sometimes the message is fixed later when new messages are posted.

I turned some switches on the panel, and now I cant see my settings, channel bar, or my friends list. I have removed both the plugins and the Discord app its self. I dont know what to do, any Ideas?

Krappa not working

When you type Krappa in the chat, the emoji seems to refer to a dead link. When you type Kappa twice it will show the icon properly. Is there any fix for this?

Minimum emote length 3 or modifiable

I distinctly remember the emote length minimum limit being changed to 3 at some point to allow for LUL. This does not seem to be the case in this version. Any chance this could be changed, or possibly in the form of an exposed variable that can be changed using a plugin?

emotes issues

When i write a emote in my message they disappear after few secondes but i see them if i try to delete my message for example. Or if i write a message with a emote alone, then i write another message, the emote will be "behind" the new message

Settings colors don't match Discord's on light theme

I know it's apparently a sin to use the light theme on Discord, but the settings added by BetterDiscord don't follow the same text color and highlight color as the regular Discord settings do when highlighting. Instead, they use the Dark theme variant of the colors, even if the Dark theme isn't turned on.

Bandaged discord doesn't download (Solved Can be closed)

This happens with both the no admin installer used with and without admin privileges and the normal launcher with and without admin privileges. It's just stuck at Downloading to >user/blabla/blabla/blabla. As you can see in the image. Anyone has had this issue before?

No antivirus is running as I turned those off beforehand to prevent this kind of things. Yet this is still happening. I also used the file outside of the downloads folder and used it from the desktop.
