This document is a collection of notes, formulas, and solved problems about various subjects. It exists mainly for reference purposes.

Obtaining a release

As modifications are made and reviewed, new releases are made.

Here you can get the latest release as a PDF.

Building

Issuing the following command should build the PDF.

$ bash build.sh

See the .travis.yml file of a snapshot to understand how a given version is built.

License

Therefore you're free to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material) for any purpose.

notes's Issues

Merge my SQL Antipatterns notes into this notebook

This should be done eventually.

The version of the document should be mentioned in the PDF

The output of git describe is already a good start.

The introduction should be more motivational and explanatory

The introduction of Solved Calculus Exercises is an example of what I am talking about.

Add a license.

I was thinking about Unlicense, but I am not sure.

The ShareLaTeX badge should link to their build page

Currently it just opens the image.

Provide a compressed PDF of the book

We should provide a smaller PDF of the notebook to save bandwidth and improve accessibility. Not to mention that as the document grows this will become more and more of a necessity.

Rename to notes

I want to rename the project to notes for several reasons:

1. It will be shorter to type
2. Starting with a lowercase letter makes my typing easier on the terminal
3. Formulas is just too specific for this project, that from now on will be getting more and more notes

Set up spell checking in CI

It would be a nice idea to have spell checking integrated with the build.

It should fail the build (or shouldn't it?) if there are any typos that are not in an extensive whitelist (for those words that are allowed but not in the used dictionary).

Write a note asking people not to print this file

Be ecologically correct, please. You don't need to print this, we both know it.

@glnritchie if you want to discuss this issue or just go ahead and implement it, feel invited to do so.

Replace all TeX math escapes by LaTeX ones

Replace $ by \( \) and $$ by \[ \].

This is needed both for conformity and for improved quality. It is considered a best practice to use only the latest escape sequences.

Right triangle image has confusing names.

The names of the sides do not match the names in the text. Fix by removing image.

Write a command to pretty print IEEE 754 binary strings

This is important to improve readability of long bit strings.

Adjust table padding to improve readability

See the first cell of the second row and the last cell of the last row for specific examples:

I don't think it requires its own document and I also think it fits the purpose of Notes quite well.
