BigWord

An application to efficiently find words in a dictionary from a multiset of letters.

Building

I suggest you use Ninja.

$ mkdir build 
$ cd build
$ cmake -G Ninja -D CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release .. 
$ ninja

Running

$ ./bigword linkedlists
> instilled
> kindliest
> niellists
> slinkiest

$ ./bigword abcdefghij
> bighead
> jibhead

$ ./bigword aeioubsdlinux
> unoxidisable

Design

Data is serialized after processing in order to speed up subsequent runs.

Serialization

Human-readable formats are preferred.

Most of the data is plain text, storing it as binary does not improve performance significantly.

When a string may have spaces, it is dumped after a 32-bit unsigned integer value which represents the string size. When it is safe to assume that the string does not have spaces, it is dumped in a new line all by itself.

Should have a copyright option

This should allow end-users to see the license.

Should start versioning this project

Software should be versioned.

Segmentation fault when not passing arguments to options that expect them

./bigword --source alternative.txt nothinghere

Should use Robot Framework to test the program

That or some other thing to test the executable for a few different cases.

Statements after return should generate compiler warnings

This is what we must fix from #5.

Should submit this to Coverity Scan

Some extra static analysis wouldn't hurt.

Store should save store version

This way the end user would not have to delete old and invalid stores manually.

Should have support for printing all longest words

This could be done by only stopping the iteration after reaching the first candidate which is smaller than the first match.
