Over-write what's there, but the ultimate goal is to check for updates and send only those (additions, modifications and deletions.)

To FTP my files to my web host I'm currently using a rough-and-ready single-line shell script (with a million lines of enclosing documentation) - containing plaintext username and password.

It works, is hardly likely to see the light of day, but other solutions exist - SCP over SSH being suggested by jws on 10Centuries.

Look into:

• Reset the files' archive flags and only upload those which have it set,
• Check out 'mtime',
• Cron changes to a folder, upload only that.

Even adding a shebang at the head of the file fails to get this to run. Jekyll fails - probably as a result of my lack of knowledge of the RVM Ruby manager.
