To disconnect and free the context the following function can be used:

void redisFree(redisContext *c);
This function immediately closes the socket and then free's the allocations done in creating the context.

Requests that produce array responses utilize memcpy to create copies of the data returned from Redis when creating ERL_NIF_TERMs.

These aren't as efficient in terms of speed or resource utilization compared to the resource_binary terms that are created when a response only returns a single binary value from Redis.

Threaded NIF
This is accomplished by dispatching the work to another thread managed by the NIF library, return from the NIF, and wait for the result. The thread can send the result back to the Erlang process using enif_send. Information about thread primitives can be found below.

Preliminary testing showed a lot of complexity for very little benefit, but it may be worth looking into again.
