When I open Launcher Hijack, it allows me to choose Total Launcher as the Launcher to use, but when I go to Home, it defaults to the Fire launcher. I tried restarting and waiting 10 seconds and tapping on Home again to no avail. Does it not work with Total Launcher?

On Fire TV v3, when trying to run the app, it just goes to a white screen very quickly (1 second) then does nothing.

when i hold the power button and the ok and cancel buttons appear pressing ok does not turn of the tablet.

1. Installed via adb from apk
2. Opened app, clicked Nova, tried to set as default
3. Hit the home button

Tablet went back to Fire launcher as usual

I can install the app and also open it.
But all the adb codes won't work, I just get a adb: not found back.
I m using Firetv Stick 4k with FireOS 6.2.5.8
Please fix it.. I was so happy to use a custom launcher on it..

why the heck does github never have ready to install apps? exe's or apk's? i hate it. I'm not a fan of this site at all. i am very technically inclined but lazy AF... please don't tell me it's github policy to not provide pre-compiled shiz!

We all know that Amazon blacklisted this app's name. I have a feeling that even if the project name is changes, it will get blacklisted again. So I think the smartest will be be to include a quick tutorial to change application name in the readme. Let every one choose the name for themselves.

How do I run this exact “adb shell” commands in a terminal emulator locally on the firestick:

adb shell settings put secure enabled_accessibility_services com.baronkiko.launcherhijack/com.baronkiko.launcherhijack.AccServ

I just NEED THE COMMAND and not how to run terminal emulator I already got that part working however when I run that command it doesn't work, I wanna be able to run it without a computer so Im using the app called remote adb shell from my phone

Describe the bug
Probably not a way around this but I want to make my Fire TV "Spouse" Proof so when she Presses the power button on Fire TV that it launches Kodi which I have set on Boot and Kodi is configured to automatically tune the last channel she was viewing. App works as advertised on "Boot" But not Power, (Sleep). Is there any way to add this functionality?

Running with Nova launcher on Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet. Installed in December w/o issue but has started 'flickering'. It looks like it's trying to flip b/w the default Fire launcher and Nova. Tablet works after deleting hijack but the default Fire launcher is garbage and un-friendly for toddlers. I haven't tried another launcher yet but will when she lets me (lol). Will update if it resolves the issue.

The hijack launcher app has a problem which is whenever you press the home button the fire launcher flashes then the Nova launcher appears .
I'm am using the fire HD 8 tablet ( 6th gen)

Fire HD 8 (7th generation) Fire OS 5.6.2.0

Installation went expected. However, when pressing the square button (app button?) and then pressing the triangle button (back button) you will be directed to the Default Home Screen.

Pressing the home button will take you back to the launcher screen. In this case Nova Launcher.

I would personally like it to go back to the nova home screen when done switching apps.

Any thoughts?

Hi, this app works on the Fire Stick, but on FireTV 3 and Fire TV Cube, it doesn't work.

I know currently these devices are not supported so I am making this a feature request to add support.

I am aware that the same exploit may no longer be possible so it might take time to find a new exploit. I'm willing to donate a test device if that will help at all.

Please advise if you can consider this or not.

The subject says it all - is "Detect Home button" ON by default in 5.4.0.0, or have you found a workaround? I just recvd a Fire HD 8 (7th Gen), and got upgraded before I could stop it.

I'd try it, but I'm a noob, and don't know if there is risk of permanent bricking. . .

While Hijack Launcher works great on Amazon Fire 8" 6.3.0.1 (2018 - 8th gen.), it doesn't work for several Kids Launchers such as iWawa, Kid's Shell, Kid's Home, etc. I tried about 5-6 different kids launchers without success. It seems that many people bought the specific tablet on Black Friday for their kids, but everybody is facing the same issue with Kid's launchers.
It will be much appreciated if you can check the possibility for an updated Hijack Launcher that supports kid's launchers.

Fire HD7 (4th Gen) FireOS 5.6.1.0 Launcher Hijack 4.0.2

Nothing appears in the list of launchers after installing. I've rebooted, uninstalled and re-installed, tried installing Launcher Hijack 3.0. and have never seen a list of launchers.

After an upgrade to FireOS 5.6.4.0 (636558520) last night LauncherHijack v3 stopped working. The message I got was "Not compatible with this device". I tried rebooting but it still would still not work. I then tried installing the latest version from Github, but the the install fails with no particular error message, just that the install failed. HELP!

Just like it's stated in the title, I would like to help create a logo for your Hijack Launcher v4.0.2 app. I would've sent a PM, but I couldn't find an option available, and you stated on XDA that you don't check the forum much often. I have the same username on XDA so feel free to message me here or on there so I know how you want to proceed moving forward.

Followed all the directions, but after enabling "To detect home button press" under Settings > Accessibility, it no longer recognizes any buttons / icon presses. Clicking on anything (icons, home button, etc.) causes the screen to blink and then do nothing. No apps will load, can't get into settings, bottom buttons don't work.

I thought I was hosed, and that I'd have to restore from a backup, but I was able to finally get back into settings by holding down the home button long enough for voice command to work and I got into settings that way. Once settings launched, I was able to navigate around and turn off the "To detect home button press."

I have tried multiple times and installed 4.0.2/3 and the renamed ones

I can get them sideloaded no problem through adb but after I do the adb access commands I still get the error that they are not disabled...over and over again.

what does your comment on you must enable accessibility server by going to accessibility etc.. theres nothing to 'turn on' in here.. there's screen magnifier, high contrast text, and closed caption? Nothing says 'enable'

After installation of the app, I cannot open it. When I try to go through either the Amazon Launcher or Nova, it's missing.

The Fire TV section should contain the following command as well that actually enables the accessibility services:

adb shell settings put secure accessibility_enabled 1

In my case, the hijacker did not work until this setting was turned on. I can do a PR if you want. Thanks!

Just to keep track

First, I think that Launcher Hijack is potentially a great tool and mostly works.

I installed Launcher Hijack on my Kindle Fire 8 2017 and ran into 2 major problems.

Running Hijack & Nova Launcher, I set "persistent search bar" in Nova options.
The search bar shows up but does not work.
I can't type anything in the search bar and get it to do a google search.
If I click in the search bar, I see a list of recent searches. I can't select any of them.

If I run Nova Launcher as an app in standard Fire launcher, it opens up and I can search.

Second problem.
Running Hijack & Nova Launcher, I can't add a widget to any screen.
I can search the list of widgets, but if I select one then the Fire settings screen opens and the widget is not put on any screen.

After an upgrade to FireOS 5.6.4.0 (636558520) Build 40.6.3.6 last night LauncherHijack v4.0.2 stopped working (message -- Incompatale program stopped). tried reinstall Incompatale program, not installed. Got latest version LauncherHijack v4.0.3 installing the app just appears as an update and once it's finished I can close the installer but not run the app. Also as mentioned, the app no longer appears in any listing

It seems that it only allows horizontal scrolling. SquareLauncher2 mimics Windows10 with vertical scrolling.

the hijack works great. on home button press, there's only a half-second flash of the Kindle ui before the launcher kicks in. thing is, it won't let me use any widgets. it redirects me to the kindle settings. is this because i can't make nova the default? or some other, fixable reason? i'd really love to be able to put a clock and some other stuff on the home screen.

This is low priority, it was encountered on an unsupported (by you) device (my Android phone) -- feel free to close it as a wontfix. I figured I would report it and let you decide. It might possibly be good to fix for the fire phone

After figuring out how to bind AccServ to the Accessibility Service via adb for the FireTV devices, I encountered a repeating crash after I did the below:

Uninstalled all of my test launchers
Reinstalled LauncherHijack
Bound the service in Accessibility

To define "repeating", what I mean is that the AccServ kept crashing every time I would click to dismiss the Force Close prompt, causing another Force Close prompt -- so, I disabled the service binding, installed a couple of test launchers again, and then went about enabling the binding again, after which I got no crashes.

A little concerned that VirusTotal found 2 potential issues.

Perhaps this is typical, I'm not sure. Just thought I'd raise it.

I tried installing the LauncherHijackV3.apk binary on Kindle Fire 3rd Generation with rooted Fire OS 4.5.5.3. I get en error if I do it using ADB:

I also tried installing the apk loaded to the Kindle using OI File Manager. I get a message

I was able to install other packages from OI File Manager.
LauncherHijack 2 and 2.1 fail exactly the same way.
I suspect the binary packages require and SDK newer than supported by my Kindle? If that's the case, would it be possible to lower the SDK requirements?

I successfully got LauncherHijack installed on my 4K Stick. I also got ADB Remote to talk from my android device to my 4K stick.

When inputting the commands to bypass Accessibility, it 'appears' to go through... but HijackLauncher does not show up.

When i access the app separately, it still gives the Accessibility error.

I performed the following on the Kindle Fire HD 8 (7th generation) I got today. It's running Fire OS 5.4.0.0. I have enabled installing apps from unknown sources, then downloaded the launcher hijack apk. When I try to open it, I am greeted with the same installation screen as all the other apps I've sideloaded, but my tablet won't register my press on the install button.

Is Amazon maybe blocking the installation of your app? That would really stink-- I hate the Fire OS launcher... :(

Can't place widgets. Crushing back to fire settings.

Can't turn off tablet utilizing button. Also, I have the Google play store side loaded. This caused the play store to not be accessible. Once I uninstalled LauncherHijack, I was able to turn off tablet and access Play Store.

Updated my Fire HD 10 OS to 5.6.2.0 today and the notification and navigation areas became invisible and non-functional. The Amazon tech did a factory refresh to correct the problem. I had Google Play, LauncherHijack, Nova Launcher and a clock/weather widget installed (in addition to some play store apps).

This is just a note that LauncherHijack may cause an issue with this OS update.

Fire TV Stick 4K; Android 7.1.2; Fire OS 6.2.5.8; using LauncherHijack V4.0.2
Silk Browser cursor is missing and doesn't show on screen. The page can be navigated using the remote (up and down, left and right) but you can not see the cursor on screen to make a selection. Tried with 3 different launchers (AppStarter, HAL, ATV Launcher) and Silk Browser cursor is missing in all of them but if I uninstall LauncherHijack V4.0.2 Silk Browser cursor returns and everything works.

I don't see any license on this project. The repo you forked does not have one either but you did a lot modifications so I think it is time to add an open source license.

i would love to use nova launcher but i can't use a wallpaper. any fix? also can you guide me to which app can make nova be bound to "home"? i like Halauncher too but i wanna know if Hal can set a wallpaper image? sorry if I'm asking for help on apps you don't administer!

I have a Kindle Fire 7 running FireOS 5.4.0.0, and the app doesn't seem to work for me. It installed fine, and it doesn't give any errors when I run it and select Nova Launcher. It just simply doesn't make any changes.
