log2screen

A simple block which disables the plymouth service on boot, and prints device and application info and the journal logs to any attached HDMI display.

Add the bh.cr/balenalabs/fbcp block if you are using a RaspberryPi and have a PiDisplay or TFT attached.

Add it to your application by adding the following service to your docker-compose.yml file:

log2screen's Issues

run.sh fails to change the hostname

Line 5-6 of run.sh shows the following command is attempted:

# try and set the hostname to 'balena'
curl -X -s PATCH --header "Content-Type:application/json" --data '{"network": {"hostname": "balena"}}' "$BALENA_SUPERVISOR_ADDRESS/v1/device/host-config?apikey=$BALENA_SUPERVISOR_API_KEY" > /dev/null

This doesn't work and instead gives the following error:

curl: (6) Could not resolve host: PATCH

The issue is caused by the "-s" option following the "-X". If the order of these arguments is swapped then the command would run successfully.

But why do you want to change the hostname to begin with?

Consider giving more screen real estate to the logs section

For balenaSound its like 85% services, 10% logs, 5% the top section.
We could parse and compress the information on the services json object into a more condensed view.

Doesn't work on balena Fin

The Plymouth service refuses to quit, so you can't see the logging.
