About

So Safari 12 changed its extensions format. I had a plugin that worked to pretty print JSON but now it won't work.

While there were a few JSON Pretty Print extensions free in the store already, I decided to make another...couldn't hurt right? Plus I can add stuff I want.

Also, community contributions are welcome. File an issue to discuss and send a pull request.

Right now three things are needed:

  1. Folding blocks
  2. Context menu to toggle raw (the toolbar button does this but it should be in the context menu as well).

Follow the Issues for more.

prettyjson's Issues

CSS also affects other web sites

First, thanks for this extension.

We use a commercial web site which also uses CSS class number and they were appearing in darkorange on my machine as the CSS in this extension overrides the styling on the site.

make URLs links

If there are URLs in the JSON, it would be nice if these were rendered as links. Many services that paginate results, supply pageX links to move to next/previous page and just clicking on them if nice.

Native Apple Silicon Build

PrettyJSON is the only process still requiring Intel on my M1 Mac. It would be great if you could make a new build which runs it natively and push it to the Mac App Store.

Extension affects another extension

When I have your extension on, the text inside another extension (Honey in this example) becomes red. See screenshots for “off” and “on” view:

PrettyJSON in "Using Significant Energy" list

This doesn't really seem possible, but I'm regularly seeing PrettyJSON listed under the apps "Using Significant Energy" in the Battery menu bar dropdown. Anyone else seeing this?

EDIT: As there's been no reaction to this, I'm adding a screenshot, in case anyone deems it worthy of attention. I've now uninstalled this extension, which is a shame as I liked it and got good use out of it.

The "J" icon on Safari's tool bar -- does nothing? where's the "Pretty" thing?

Well... You can remove the "Pretty" from the name... as clicking the "j" icon on Safari's Toolbar simply does nothing.

I drag a local .json file to the web-address.

I can see its content. Whether it is a "beautified" JSON or compressed-one-string JSON - pressing the J just does nothing at all.

Any idea why?

This is not a web-page, nor web-response to web-request - a simple local .JSON text file, which shows perfectly in other software.

This is MacOS 12.7.1 running on Mac-mini M1 2020, and Safari 17.1.2

Option to enable word wrap?

Title says it all, really. :) I occasionally view JSON that has fairly long lines and it causes horizontal scrolling, being able to wrap to the width of the window would be lovely.
