Currently default.ffc.j2 is rendered last, over the top of a fragmentary .ffc file created by verilator.ffc.j2 (or any other sim tool template). Ideally we shouldn't have this dependency. What's more, we should render the most specific template and have it include the default only if it wants to - some templates may wish to override default.v.j2, for example.

CI should be set up so that any errors are caught in merge request, before merging to master.

Also, I should start using merge requests instead of pushing to master (or find another way to get CI to run before merging).

Currently the only function with a docstring is "validate directory" because I wanted the requirements it was validating against to be clear.

At the very least, all public functions and classes should have docstrings, as well as any other unclear internal functions.

The architecture of the independent subcommands needs to be more composable. Ideally we shouldn't need to touch main.py in order to add a new one.

Maybe look at how Git handles this for inspiration?
