What region is your ec2 instance running in? I suspect the bucket and the instance must be in the same region.

Hi @adki, it seems you've set your default region to us-east-1c.
You can check the default region in ~/.aws/config

Can you modify it to us-east-1 and try again.

The reason why it works when you specify --region is that the cli does not refer to the ~/.aws/config file when you specify the --region arg.

When you then run any command like aws s3 mb without specifying a --region, it tries to look for the region in ~/.aws/config or AWS_DEFAULT_REGION env var and sets the region as such.

In your case, it finds the us-east-1c region which might have been set in your ~/.aws/config file and tries to connect to that endpoint(us-east-1c is not a valid endpoint. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/rande.html#s3_region)
