Thank you for reporting this issue.
I have tried a few different workflows around the described steps and couldn't reproduce this issue on my side on both mayaUSD 0.27.0 or 0.26.0 on Mac. I will test it on linux and update the info once we have some more. @ika-rporter would you be able to share a simple file created from your setup? it would be good to be able to rule out specific environment settings. :)
