linking dataset to service

How to link a dataset which is served by a service.

example : (CDS) A VizieR catalogue is served by the VizieR service.

I don't like "cite", because "cite" updates the citation statistics in DataCite.
According to the Datacite schema 4.4, there are other possibilities: IsPartOf, IsCollectedBy, Reference...

Do you have any suggestion?

Improvements to Section 3.2: "Pathology"

@gilleslandais wrote by email:

Section 3.2: "Pathology"

  1. +ambiguous metadata (eg: author with no orcid or affil, no standard keywords)
  2. please, if you can add example
  3. is it the inadequacy between the DOI metadata and the data pointed in the landing page?

[Discussion] Section 2 "Extant use of Digital Object Identifiers in Archives": Collections

Note: the subsections looks like DCAT resources (https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-dcat-3/#dcat-scope)- Dcat provides a semantic of Resources that can be datasets, collections and services with their possible relationships.
Just note, that it is difficult to link a dataset with a service in Datacite schema.

  • Collections
Can you define what is a Collection ?
ex: list of resources published separately that could be in different types and organized as children from a common Resource.
(for instance list of individual spectra and a catalogue of the observations)

Questions:
- "There is no expectation that this collection DOIs would ever themselves collection attribution (citations)" ?
did you mean DOI used for internal purpose only ?
- about VAMDC, did you mension the QueryStore (that allows to assign DOI on a result query) ?
citing VAMDC here, is it to give an example of DOI including the origin in relationships ?
Do you propose to explain how to manage collection taking into account their relationship so that it responds to the citation need ?

Note: talking about relations opens the door on relationship that can link external resources too ... (do we have to talk about that?)

UAT keyword

That's a detail

I propose to encourage dataset provider to use UAT keywords

Lot's of advantages using UAT: which are also encouraged in the registry. It is based on a semantic (UAT thesaurus)

Datacite propose to specify the schema URI whoich can be completed with a classificationCode.

eg:

<subject schemeURI="https://astrothesaurus.org/uat/" subjectScheme="UAT" classificationCode="1054">Milky Way Galaxy</subject>

Question:

  • granularity level: to put or not the classificationCode ? (is the UAT url persistent ? can we use classificationCode ?)

IVOA registry in section 2

The registry doesn't provide a DOI registration service.

Markus Demleitner provides this type of service in Gavo, but it is separated from registry !

section 2

Section 2 defines a classifification with 4 type of resources.

What is the idea behind this classification? a best practices for each of them ?

I think that Knowledgebases section deserves more explanation, perhaps as examples.
Is it true if I say that a knowledge databse is a service that provides/generate (possibly among other things) DOI for some (or all) of its resources?

In that case , are there special DOI metadata expected ? relationships between resource and the service?
