Broken link - Thing 1

From contact@ardc: 20.10.22

I hope this message finds you well. I've just come across your great resource 'All the Research Data things', and was reading through Thing 1.

I just wanted to let you know that the link in Thing 1 related to defining data from the University of Oregon is a stale link, the information can still be found at this link: https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/research-data-services/data-management-define-data

I hope this was helpful, and thanks for the amazing resource.

Best,

Prepare for blast off

What do we need to make this ready for a zenodo snapshot?

  • knowledge transfer from Tom on jekyll and templates
  • applying ARDC logo brand

How to calculate url for not things pages?

_config.yml
specified a base url. In some liquid filters is a way of referring to the base URL.

modify the footer HTML file in _includes folder or header.

Content problem in thing-12: ALA search

Having trouble with the following content in thing-12: the link to "browse datasets" at ALA is broken, and I can't find an ALA search function that allows me to follow the instructions given. I'm not sure what sort of record I'm supposed to end up at - is anyone familiar with how this used to work?

2. We are going to see some controlled vocabularies in action in
the Atlas of Living Australia. We are going to use Browse
Datasets
: type text:magpie in
the search box. Choose your favourite magpie species and click on the
(red text) View record link. Any metadata field where you see
Supplied... tells you that the information supplied by the person who
submitted the record (often a 'citizen scientist') has been changed to
the controlled vocabulary being used in metadata fields e.g. Observer,
Record date and Common name.

Credly badges

Taking on @tom-h's suggestion to split content from reward structures, it would be expedient in the first instance to delete all credly guff, and insert this when a new credly account and 23 badge redesigns are available.
Can we make this decision in the scope of this project?

Documentation

I'm going to put documentation, including generic "how to edit a thing" guides, and the style guide, up in the wiki

So this issue is for the meta-discussion: what should be in documentation, what is good, bad, ugly, etc.

That old devil CAULD style guide

Are we repeating the "do you have a question...post to slack...tweet" refrain after each of the 3 levels for each thing? I'm noticing (in thing2 for example) that the refrain appears only once at the end of the 'whole' thing.
