voice-of-light's Introduction

Why this bot will be dead soon

For quite some time now I have lost the time to work on Voice of Light. Still I was trying to at least spend the time to keep the bot up and running for those of you that used the bot. (At the moment of writing this, it was around 700 Servers! My eternal gratitude to you all.)

However, now Discord decided to create some breaking changes which would require some serious rewrites. On top of that because of these changes and prior issues with Discords actions, the library maintainer of the discord library I was using archived their repository.

As a result of all of this, once those breaking changes drop, this bot will stop working and you will need a replacement. A bot that covers many of the features would for example be yagpdb.xyz. For the surrender@20 notifications I don't have an immediate solutions but perhaps a general RSS bot or a webhook can do the job

If you care enough to read up more about the issue, the discord.py library maintainer has made a quite comprehensive writeup: https://gist.github.com/Rapptz/4a2f62751b9600a31a0d3c78100287f1 Many thanks go out to Danny for his excellent work up until now.

Should you want to pick up this project, the (admittably kinda sucky) code is all open source

Setup Guide

Add the bot to your server via this link

General Information

The bot has different subcommands for it's available sources. Each has further commands for configuration.
These are mostly the same for each subcommand.

Example command:
;reddit subscribe memes

Also there are short aliases for most commands to make frequent usage easier. You can find them in the respective help pages.

Example alias:
;rd sub memes

There are some utility commands outside of a specific subcommand. Like ;setchannel which sets the notification channel for all categories.

You can look up any information through the ;help command. For further help on specific subcommands use ;help <command>.

Setup instructions for Categories

These instructions are the same for any category, just with different subcommands. For example purposes I am going to use Surrender@20 here but you can also use youtube, reddit and twitch.

First, set up a channel where the notifications should be posted:
;surrenderat20 setchannel #notifications-channel

Or (for all categories):
;setchannel #notification-channel

Then subscribe to the topics you want. For Surrender@20 all the possible topics are listed in ;help ff20 sub
;surrenderat20 subscribe releases

Alternatively you can subscribe to all by not specifying any. eg:
;surrenderat20 subscribe

For other categories you would enter the name of the channel or subreddit instead of the topic.

The unsubscribe command works in the same way.

To unsubscribe from the same topic again use:
;surrenderat20 unsubscribe releases

Unsubscribing from everything can be done via:
;surrenderat20 unsubscribe

To view all of your subscriptions you can use the list command:
;surrenderat20 list

voice-of-light's Issues

Question regarding notifications.

Is there a way we can split the notifications to go into different channels? Before Surrender Now was shut down we had multiple channels in which different things were posted in (see image)

It'd be awesome if you could spend some time developing a feature that could do this, or if already present, teach me how to do so. Thanks!
