...but it works for the AI controller. Not sure if this is related to the null reference exception on healthSlider issue.

This appears to only happen if the human controller (player 2) hits itself, in which case the AI Contoller (p1) has null for the healthSlider. What's weird about this is it also always calls doDamage for the AIControlller, even if the AI controller is nowhere near the human controller when humancontroller hits itself. Interestingly, if the AI controller (p1) hurts itself, if the human controller hurts the AIController, or the AI Controller hurts the human controller, everything is fine. It's just when the humancontroller hurts itself.

Currently the code only works for rotation about the y axis. Should generalize to provide all actions (rotation, panning, firing, etc).

Preferably just a flat plane of voxels, best if the voxels cannot be destroyed for simplicity.
