anki-full-search's Introduction

Search in all fields

Rationale

One strange limitation of anki is that searching in formatted text sometime fails. More precisely, it fails when only a part of the searched word or sentence contains some formatting (bold, italic, underline...). Unless the word searched is in the «search field», in which case the search succeeds.

This add-on's allow to search in any field as in the search field.

This add-on also allows you to save space in your collection if you never sort your card by search field.

Usage

  • Tools>Full search: this should be used after you install the add-on. It should also be used if you edited some notes from ankidroid, anki os, or any version of anki without this add-on.
  • Tools>Normal search: if you decide to stop using this add-on, you should use this to have the standard search.

Warning

Your collection will be slightly bigger. This means that full sync will takes more bandwidth. Note however that it don't become extremly bigger. My current collection used to be 116M without this add-on and became 121M with it.

Configuration:

The principal configuration option is "sort field". When it is set to false, you won't be able to sort by "sort field" in the browser, and it'll reduce the size of your collection.

For the two other options, see config.md

Technical

The sort field column of the browser will now contains, in this order:

  • the sorted field (this ensure that if you sort cards using the sort field, the sort will remains the same with this add-on than without. Except if your field only contain a number)
  • every other field, without the formatting (except the ones which contains no formating).

Internal

This method modifies anki.Note.flush. The new method calls the old one.

anki-full-search's Issues

could you remove clozing too ?

Hi,

I was looking at my db the other day and found out that the sfld column still retains clozes tags ({{cx:: and }}). Would it be possible to update the addon to remove them too?

It is frequent for med students to do things like {{c1::hyper}}{{c2::kalemia}} and it doeesn't work with search.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thank you again for all your addons.

PS : your idea of mentoring people to contribute to anki is absolutely incredible, thank you immensely.

If addon is enabled you can't undo deleting cards

Sounds strange, but when the addon is enabled and you delete a card, then the "undo" option is not available, the button is grey. If the adddon is disabled then the option to "undo delete Note" is working and the card is restored. I believe I have had this issue only since updating to the latest anki version. It is also occuring when all other addons are disabled except "search in formatted text"

Version ⁨2.1.61 (0c1eaf4c)⁩
Python 3.9.15 Qt 6.4.2 PyQt 6.4.0

Thank you for the addon. It is an essential because it takes care of ankis strange searching behavior. I would be very happy should this get fixed!
