@snowtimeglass could you check to see if this is an issue in 2.17?
Asking to figure out if this may block the 2.18 release
from anki-android.

This isn't an issue in 2.17.6. As noted in the "Expected behaviour" above, the expected behavior occurs in 2.17.6.
