What exactly do you have in mind? Right now, the plugin opens a new tab and splits the two segments vertically. Would you like to have a horizontal split instead? Or perhaps for you it's not working correctly?

There wasn't a setting for it, but I guess it would be useful. I've just pushed two settings you can use to adjust the positioning of the windows. The relevant documentation is here: https://github.com/AndrewRadev/linediff.vim/blob/master/doc/linediff.txt#L112-136.

In short, if you pull from master, you should be able to use horizontal splits by placing something like this in your .vimrc:

let g:linediff_first_buffer_command  = 'tabnew'
let g:linediff_second_buffer_command = 'rightbelow new'
