obs-midi's Issues

Transition in studio mode

Would you be able to add in support for studio mode features such as a button to transition the preview scene to the program, and set the transition type and such?

Archived versions?

Are there known working older releases available for use? I am having difficulty getting the new version to work. Thank you for your hard work!

OBS-midi crashing OBS on mac because of devices duplicate in basic.in - Solution inside

OBS-MIDI on Mac

I've been experiencing a lot of crashes and developer seems to be aware of the mac issues, but I just wanted to quickly share back how to make it work. Dev said he's rewriting all plugin so I didn't investigate into source code to fix this.

The issues on mac comes from the fact that the device configuration gets duplicated in OBS basic.ini

The MidiDevices JSON array gets messy when clicking the save button as device configuration is not overridden but device is duplicated with new configuration.

To solve this you (and backup your midi settings too) can go and tweak the JSON:
here : ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/profiles/[YOURPROFILENAME]/basic.ini

I would recommend to start clean. Do one and only configuration through the app to discover your midi inputs and then go to the basic.ini configuration file if you need to change anything to the configuration.

No OBS crash when proceeding this way so way...

Hope it helps some of you.

Allow manual defining of output codes

Hi I have the original Launchpad S and the LaunchControl. Both use different output codes to toggle the colors of buttons. It would be nice to either map those or allow manual setting of them to indicate where I left of :)

Set Scene Transition Override crashes OBS

Platform

Operating system and version: Windows 10
OBS Studio version: 27.1.3

Current Behavior

OBS crashes when the Set Scene Transition Override is executed

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add a Mapping
  2. Choose the action Set Scene Transition Override
  3. Execute the midi input signal wich is mapped (Press the button on the midi-board)
  4. OBS will crash

Ability to control changing transforms or map keyboard buttons and arrows

One handy feature would be able to use either several midi buttons or a fader/knob to control transform X/Y, zoom, etc so you can control position and size of sources in a scene from the midi controller. A fader would be a single axis.

Another option would be to use a fader or buttons to replicate arrow keys for toggling between items or editing transforms. A user would still have to click on what they want before using the buttons.

Keep up the good work!

Feature request: Combined pause/resume recording, similar to start/stop recording.

As the title says. Currently I need to map two buttons, one to pause and one to resume. Would be great to only have to spend one.

Funcionally this could even be combined with start recording, if the OBS API allows that, because you can't pause a recording that hasn't been started. So could have start/pause/resume on one button. Handy for the case where you don't plan on mapping the stop recording action to your MIDI controller anyway, but maybe that's asking for a bit much.

Loosing Configuration

I've been working with this plugin for a couple of days and am having a problem with it "forgetting" all of the patches I've made. Sometimes it will remember between launches of OBS and sometimes it won't. Am I missing some save feature? or is there a way to export/import lists?

Reporting a vulnerability

Hello!

I hope you are doing well!

We are a security research team. Our tool automatically detected a vulnerability in this repository. We want to disclose it responsibly. GitHub has a feature called Private vulnerability reporting, which enables security research to privately disclose a vulnerability. Unfortunately, it is not enabled for this repository.

Can you enable it, so that we can report it?

Thanks in advance!

PS: you can read about how to enable private vulnerability reporting here: https://docs.github.com/en/code-security/security-advisories/repository-security-advisories/configuring-private-vulnerability-reporting-for-a-repository

Clarification: which is the right repository?

Hello OBS Midi People, Fans, and Creators,

I was wondering which of the two obs-midi repositories is the most current as of right now? Which one should be considered the main repository for this project?

I have read that both of you are the developers behind this, just wondering if it would make sense to combine them repositories so that the issues can be collected in one spot?

Parallel issue on the other repository: cpyarger#137

This also leads into the question of: how active is the development of this project? I am considering making videos about this OBS-Midi plugin and trying to make it more popular but if it's stale I will not do that.

Thank you and I am looking forward to getting a better understanding.

obs-midi crashes OBS if I set bidirectional for a midi event row.

Setting bidirectional checkbox in obs-midi device midi configuration page can cause a crash and corruption of the [MidiAPI] midi_devices entry in basic.ini

  1. Open the OBS MIDI Setting dialog.
  2. Select a device and press Configure.
  3. Press a button.
  4. Change it from Fader to Button,
  5. Turn on bidirectional for that button
  6. Save
  7. Press that button to select that scene.
  8. Crash OBS

Mac - A Thank You and request for ROUGH ETA

Sorry if this is counter productive by requiring your time to read it but I just wanted to say THANK YOU for being honest and clear about re-writing the Mac app... such a breath of fresh air, but more importantly, it tells me I should concentrate my time elsewhere for the moment instead of trying to rig Bome's Midi Translator or whatever else I might have tried. THANK YOU for that respect of my time. Without holding you to anything, do you have a ROUGH estimate of when you might have the Mac re-write (which will enable midi-learn [or assignment])---if it is several months out yet, I may yet try setting something else up but if it's a matter of weeks.....

Different and unwanted behavior in Studio Mode

I was trying to make my Launckey MK3 MINI to work as ATEM 1m console - top row button instantly cuts to scene (1-8), bottom gives it on preview window, so you could use "cut" button and swap preview and program window. I plan to use this setup with Multiview screen.

Problem is, expected behavior for top row (instant cut to scene, mapped as this: note on, %key number%, Do Transition, Scene %scene name\number%, Transition - Cut) works as expected in normal mode. Multiview screen demonstrates changing of both Preview and Program screens on pressing of the button. Because of that its unable to utilize bottom row to change Preview window independently.

If I switch OBS to Studio Mode, bottom row works perfectly, changing scene in both of OBS preview and Multiview Preview, and I could cut it with buttons and screens are swapping if I enable corresponding setting on gear near "Transition" button. Its mapped like this: Note On, %key number%, Preview Scene, %scene name\number%

However if I press any key on top row of controller, it just cuts to preview scene, not the one I specified. This is the only thing that stops me from setting it up as I wanted for now. Is it a bug or am I missing something in mappings?

It also crashes obs on "set scene transition override" but thats something I was not intending to map...

GUI of configure tab isn't very intuitive, its hard to track what changes were done while its moving on it own. It should be possible to sort it by creating of mapping order.

Multiple entries for one midi controller in basic.ini

I am having issues where I get multiple entries for a MIDI controller in basic.ini,
I have tried this with the Native Instruments Kontrol F1 and a Roland A-01.

If i remove the midi_devices filed from basic.ini and watch the file as I use OBS:

Testing with the Roland A-01.

Open the the OBS MIDI setting dialog
Select a MIDI Controller from the list.
basic.ini is updated with the entry for the device with the first item in the list added as the output device.

Select a different MIDI controller for output
basic.ini is updated.

Close the dialog and close OBS.
Only the one entry for the device.

Reopen OBS.
Open the the OBS MIDI setting dialog
Select the MIDI Controller from the list.
The Output setting a made before is ignored and the first item on the list is selected.
basic.ini is updated with that device.

Select a different MIDI controller for output
basic.ini is updated.

Close the dialog and close OBS.
Only the one entry for the device.

Reopen OBS.

Open the the OBS MIDI setting dialog
Select the MIDI Controller from the list.
The Output setting a made before is ignored and the first item on the list is selected.
basic.ini is updated with that device.

Press Configure
Press a keyboard key to get a note on and note off entry.
Close the dialog and close OBS.

I now have 2 entries for the device under MidiAPI MidiDevices.
One with no hooks and one with hooks.

This can cause several problems:

  1. Crash to OBS's Crashlog dialog on saving and closing the Confiure dialog.
  2. Crash to OBS's Crashlog dialog on pressing that button.
  3. all actions are gone in the configuration for the device on reopening OBS.

Transitions

It would make this plugin so much more powerful if I could midi map a button, fader, or knob to cue preset transitions.
Additionally, it would be great to use a fader or knob to adjust the "Quick Transitions" slider.
Lastly, it would be useful to be able to configure a knob or fader to change the duration of the transition.
It would also be useful to be able to configure a button to change the transition duration to preset values.

audio filter

the plugin works very well with my akai mpk mini, now I can control the volume of the tracks with the knobs, but... it would be great to be able to control the audio filters, so sound fx could be activated on the mic track, vocoders , t-pain fx, delay, reverb.

Thank you!

OBS crashes if not in studio mode and set preview scene button is triggered

Set Preview Scene works fine in studio mode as expected but will crash OBS if you switch to simple mode and trigger your preview button as there is no preview window in that mode.

Also Set Scene lights up the button of the active scene on my Beringer xtouch mini but not Set Preview Scene - the button lights up and turns back off for preview but stays lit for Set Scene which is handy to know which scene is active.

Toggle actions to not update buttons on MIDI control surface

Connecting a MIDI note-on signal from a button on a control surface to toggle mute on an audio source works to toggle the mute on and off, but the LED on the control surface button does not toggle its on/off state.

Platform

Operating system and version: Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit version 20H2 build 19042.804
OBS Studio version: 26.1.1 64 bit

Hardware: Dual Xeon E5-2662, 64 GB RAM
MIDI control surface: AKAI MIDIMIX

Expected Behavior

The LED on the button on the control surface should toggle on and off to match the mute state of the audio source.

Current Behavior

The mute state toggles on and off, but the LED remains off

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open OBS MIDI Settings
  2. Select "Devices" tab
  3. Select MIDI Mix 1 device.
  4. Check "Enabled" and "Bidirectional"
  5. Select "MIDI Mix 1" as the output for bidirectional
  6. Select the "Configure Midi Mix 1" tab
  7. Configure MIDI event for Channel 1, Message type Note on, Note/control 1, value 127 and map it to action Toggle Mute for an audio source.
  8. Click "Add Mapping"
  9. Push the button.
  10. Mute toggles on and off, but LED does not change.

Additional information

I observe that if I close the OBS MIDI Settings dialog and then open it again and go to the "Devices" tab, the Output for th eMIDI Mix bidirectional signal has changed to "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" If I reset this to "MIDI Mix 1", it remains at this setting as long as the dialog is open, but if I close the dialog and re-open it, the bidrectional signal output has reverted to "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" again. This may be the cause of the bug in updating the LEDs.

CC will not do toggle mapping.

CC note 0 value 127 for on and 2 for off

On value succesfully map to start recording
Off value will not map because there is already a mapping for note 0

Set scene in Studio Mode

Maybe this functionality is already possible but I don’t see how to do it....I need to be able to set a scene as current (send directly to Program) while in Studio Mode, with the ability to choose either a specific or current transition. I have this functionality in my Stream Deck, but I need to perform the same action via MIDI for automation. An alternative would be to use a macro (when macros are available) to first toggle off Studio Mode, change the scene in preview, apply a transition, then go back to Studio Mode. For now I am forced to manually turn off Studio Mode when using MIDI automation.

feedback

Hello, great little plug-in. It cancels out the MidiKey2Key, so I was wondering if you could include some of the features from that app so that I could add LED feedback to my apc mini, just by using your plugin, OR be able to use both the plugin and the app together with the SAME controller. In any case, being able to have multi-coloured feedback as off, yellow, green or red is what i'm hoping for.

I would really like to see the Transition and Quick Transitions in this, and being able to map the transition fader. I'm also interested in the Mute buttons, although I haven't looked deep enough to see if they are there.

Thanks so much. I should learn how to do this so I can contribute.

Not showing any midi anything in Tools bar, tried so many options

Hi,
I have tried so many different variations of installations and nothing seems to work. I have only the slightest bit of experience with MIDI and computers...just Ableton. I am new to OBS and am trying to use my MIDI gear as a control surface for OBS. I am running Windows 10 Home and installed the latest OBS which runs great by itself. I have downloaded OBS-midi (versions 01,02,03) and none seem to do anything with the downloaded files put into the plugins folder. Am I missing something? I have seen other posts about this but their solutions didn't seem to help in my case. I am in Thailand and even resorted to installing Cyberghost VPN because I thought that my location might be preventing something from loading properly. I don't know how to create a log of activity like I have seen mentioned...What can I do?
The MIDI setup I am trying to use is a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 Gen. 1 connected to a Roland MC_505.
Thanks in advance.

Midi button mapping missing

I set up about 16 button mappings using the utility, saved and tested by closing OBS and opening it to see if everything stayed when last night it was all working. My computer must have gone to sleep overnight and when I fired it up and started OBS now all the button mappings are gone. I'm not sure where the config file is stored or how to open it to verify if it still has the mappings somewhere. I tried closing OBS and restarting but still no mappings.

Request: Midi CC-control of Transition Fader (in studio-mode)

Didn't find another post requesting this, but I know from the OBSproject.com page comments that I'm sharing this request with others. It is the most important reason for me personally to pursue MIDI control of OBS.
Thanks for your great and important work!

Launch OBS with plugin & Novation Launch Control connected causes OBS to hang in processes.

This is an issue i've been having for awhile now, no clue how to fix it, but i'll try my best to explain it. If needed, I can provide other details.

With this plugin installed, I plug in my Launch Control and start obs. OBS then does not open. When I try to open OBS again, it prompts me with "OBS is already running" and asks to launch anyway. I can launch OBS with no issues this time, however the OBS midi will not work, and I will be logged out of my twitch with none of my preferences saved.

When I first try and disable it, it'll stop using my GPU and CPU, but Task Manager will not let me fully close the process, When I try to it tells me Access is Denied. The process sits at about 36MBs of usage on memory every time this happens. I've also tried ending it via Powershell and it does not work, it'll stay stuck in my processes until I unplug my Launch Control, if I haven't already tried to disable OBS, it causes a crash. Crash 2021-01-29 18-27-22.txt. But if I already tried to disable OBS, it'll close no problem. OBS MIDI is the only non-default plugin I have installed.

I have gotten OBS Midi to work with my Launch Control before. I have no clue why, since I did everything the exact same and it has worked.

Request: Control Any Variable Property in OBS With a Fader/Knob

I think the thing that will REALLY make this a killer OBS Plug-in is the ability to control ANY variable property in OBS (not just volume) with a physical fader/knob on a MIDI controller. For example, most MIDI mixers have pan/gain knobs. I'm not sure if you can do panning in OBS, but it would be great if you could assign a gain knob to adjust a gain filter that's applied to an audio source. I'd really love to be able to set any knob or fader to any filter adjustment that's on a slider. Heck, even adjusting font size would be INCREDIBLE! Change the x/y coordinates of a source. Adjust the scale of a source. As someone else requested, us a fader to control a manual transition in Studio Mode. Things like that.

But to get things started, since MIDI is primarily an audio protocol, I'd like to be able to use the knobs on my control surface to adjust a parameter of an audio filter such as Gain, the threshold on a compressor, noise gate, or noise reduction.

Thanks! Great work!

As the issue title states: release version 07e1a34 on Linux (arch linux, obs-studio version 26.1.0) does not list either my Korg nanoPAD2 or MIDIMATE II when I go to OBS Midi Settings. Instead it merely states "No Devices Available". I have no other MIDI-devices to test with, so not sure what to do to troubleshoot here.

Both devices are listed by aseqdump and work when using aseqdump -p. Does this project depend on anything not included in the plugin itself?

Triggering Set Mute action causes OBS to crash

Wonderful tool; I'm very much looking forward to seeing the results of the rewrite! Thank you so so much for the time being put into this.

This bug might simply be due to the way I set things up, but I am consistently having OBS crash* when a note on or off action tries to Set Mute.

I'm honestly not sure what Set Mute is supposed to do and Toggle Mute was the action I was actually looking for, but thought I should report the bug as, even if it's just PEBCAK, it's causing a complete program crash.

OBS seems to carry on as normal behind the crash notice, but dismissing the note brings the whole thing down.
