nordzy-icon's Issues

[BUG] Missing wine icon and tray icons.

Describe the bug
Missing wine icon for menu entry. Icon name is 'wine'.

Screenshots
The wine icon showed in Whisker menu is inherited from hicolor-icon-theme. Looks weird because (installed) Wine 6.0.1 has a broken icon.
Captura de pantalla_2021-08-15_11-12-00

Added some extra context to the screenshot for other icons in case is you find it useful. Liferea and Claws Mail are hardcoded icons (not too much to do with those).

[BUG] Firefox Icon

Hi all,

Pinkish background color of the Firefox icon makes the logo barely visible. Maybe a brighter/darker shade of pink or even completely different color would be a better match?

I've attached a screenshot.

Thank you so much for this lovely icon pack!

ss

Only generate the cache file once?

When installing many variants of the icons, install.sh runs gtk-update-icon-cache after every variant is copied, which makes the installation process slow. Is it possible to only run gtk-update-icon-cache once, after all the icons are copied over to the correct location? Or is there a reason for doing this many times?

[BUG] Installing theme through Pling.com results in all files extracted in ~/.local/share/icons

When you install the icons through the Pling.com site (or KDE system settings) the files are extracted into the ~/.local/share/icons and not in ~/.local/share/icons/Nordzy

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behaviour:

  1. Go to: https://www.pling.com/p/1686927
  2. Click on the "Install" button
  3. Select desired style.
  4. Wait until finished
  5. Open ~/.local/share/icons
  6. All files are extracted here

Or replace 1 & 2:

  1. Open KDE System Settings > Appearance > Icons
  2. Click "Get New Icons" and search for Nordzy

Extraction/ Installation results in a correct directory in the icons directory, so that KDE System Settings recognizes the theme correctly.

[BUG] timeshift icon shows black arrow tip

Describe the bug
The timeshift icon displays a black arrow tip although it does not seem supposed to do so.

To Reproduce
Open timeshift.svg in inkscape vs in a picture viewer. Also in panel and menu, the icon appears with black arrow tip.

Expected behaviour
Assuming that the black arrow tip is not intended, it should be in a nordic white/grey as the rest.

[ICON] Dolphin search icon

Application name: Dolphin (kde file manager)
Icon name if you know it: search?

image

I'm not sure exactly where this icon is coming from, but as the only icon with a background it stands out.

I want to replace the icon 2nd from last with your existing search.svg but I'm not sure what it's called or which folder it should be in.

I'd also prefer a standard 3 line menu icon than the dots in a circle, but that's not as much of an issue.

Thanks for these icons though, fantastic work!

edit: I've just set Inherits=breeze-dark in the theme which fixes it (or at least uses the breeze search icon which fits in a lot better).

[BUG] ./install.sh: line 64: /bin/sed: Argument list too long

Describe the bug
Number of files to process with sed is to big to be used as regular user. Number of files exceeds nofile limit of any Linux system for regular users.

./install.sh: line 64: /bin/sed: Argument list too long

To Reproduce
Install Nordzy-icon as regular user.

Expected behaviour
Should process line 64 command without "Argument list too long".

Desktop
ALDOS 1.4.

Additional context
Instead of:

sed -i "s/${hex_dark}/${hex_white}/g" "${THEME_DIR}"/{actions,devices,places,status}/{16,22,24}/*

You may use the following as workaround:

for ICONTYPE in actions devices places status
  do
    for i in 16 22 24
    do
      sed -i "s/${hex_dark}/${hex_white}/g" "${THEME_DIR}"/${ICONTYPE}/${i}/*
    done
  done

This way, the number of files processed by sed will not exceed the nofile limit of system. Certainly this would be fixed running ulimit, but for regular-non-technical users will be easier to modify the way files are processed from the install script.

This is the patch for install.sh. Do not think it worth to make a push request, but if you ask, I'll do it.

[BUG] Inconsistency for thunderbird

Describe the bug
The app icon and the status icon for thunderbird are different.
At least for Cinnamon, for menu and panel, the status icon is used instead of the very beautiful app one.

To Reproduce

Expected behaviour
The app icon is used for menu and panel.
This could be done by either a removal of the thunderbird icon from status or an alignment of the icons if possible.

The terminal icon looks bad with Nordic-darker and XFCE

Hi, alvatip!
I really appreciate your work. I'm new in Linux and your icon theme and Nordic made me stop theme hopping :)

I'm using 1366x768 screen, Nordic-darker theme and XFCE

My issue in the first place is that the terminal icon on panel looks little weird. Like someone cut it carelessly from somewhere using Photoshop. It's because of white rim around the terminal's logo. I know it's not your fault, it goes from parent WhiteSur icon theme.

[FEATURE] Light icons variant for dark bar

Hello, thank you for the great icons! I only experienced some problem using them with a light theme (Nordic Polar) and a dark bar: setting light icons, some of the ones on the bar result invisible, while with dark icons the latter are difficult to see in some applications.

Could you consider to release a variant of light icons for use with light theme and a dark bar? For example, as in Flat Remix (https://www.opendesktop.org/p/1012430).

Thank you so much for the great work!

Inconsistent backdrops

About

Throughout all icons there are two types of backdrop shadows:

1. Merged

Screenshot from 2022-09-04 17-47-35

2. Separate

Screenshot from 2022-09-04 17-46-47

The Issue

The first is incredibly hard to notice, since the backdrop is extremely subtle. It would arguably be only realistically visible with an OLED or QLED display. Because of this I have inadvertently contributed a ton of icons that do probably not utilise the appropriate backdrop settings, and have maybe even have two layers of backdrops.

You can see here that the Blender, and UPBGE icons have a much darker backdrop shadow, relative to other icons. Some icons like the clock icons don't have a noticeable backdrop at all.

Screenshot from 2022-09-04 17-54-47

The Fix

The best way to fix this is to standardise a way of using backdrop shadows. I think keeping the backdrop separate would be the best, as it allows for easier alteration of gradients.

Maybe we can have a branch specifically to overhaul the backdrop shadows? This could be a massive issue in the long-term.

Sorry if I missed anything, I still don't have too much experience with .svg files.

I have a 'shortcut method' to create the rdns icons. Saves some time and work. First I used the official Xfce list for rdns icons, then created a two column text file with this table data and saved it as ~/new-rdns-icons-xfce4-4.16.txt. Then used the following script, which basically looks for the old xfce4 icons within the src sub-folders, then tries to create a symlink for new rdns icon at the same location. The script only creates the symlink with relative path if the old xfce4 icon (png/svg) does exist and it does not overwrite any previously existent symlink (unless -fsr is used instead of -lr):

cd Nordzy-icon
for dir in `find ./src -type d -name "*"`
do
    cd ${dir} && \
    while read old new
    do
        if [ -e ${old}.png ]; then ln -sr ${old}.png ${new}.png; fi
        if [ -e ${old}.svg ]; then ln -sr ${old}.svg ${new}.svg; fi
    done < ~/new-rdns-icons-xfce4-4.16.txt
    cd -
done

Simple, but effective. The catch: if there is no previous old Xfce icon, there will not be a new Xfce rdns icon.

There is also this python script https://gist.github.com/bluesabre/582d886a02c793285f4e3081df9b2a3c. Have not tested it, but basically does the same as my bash script, but with harder to read code.

I can make a PR if you want, but I think you may like to play a little with both alternatives to check and test the results.
