trimless-gmail's Issues

Stopped Working

I realize you are not actively supporting this great add-on anymore, but I am hoping someone might pick it up or this latest issue tweaks your interest.

I have been a long time user of Trimless for Firefox and love it! But, it looks like Google changed something again in Gmail and Trimless is no longer working. Anyone else having this issue or found a fix?

Thanks in advance!

Improve the presentation of the extension

Here's what needs to be reworked:

  • Make it clear on the Chrome Webstore page to reload all tabs with Google Mail in them for the extension to take effect.
  • Add a second screenshot, where the trimmed content is collapsed (so it's more clear what exactly the extension does) and replace the text with something completely meaningless.

Fix some flaws of the new compose dialog

  • The labels for input boxes are hard to read for those with vision problems (low contrast).
  • The labels disappear and input boxes rearrange themselves as you enter things into them (confuses the elderly, the non-tech savvy, and trained interface designers).
  • The virtual windows hide a number of things that used to be "one-click" under buttons which now require multiple clicks, and certain keyboard shortcuts no longer work (compose a new message with CC/BBC already revealed).

Thanks to Daniel M. Reck for this suggestion.

Messages still clipped in Firefox

I think this is basically the Firefox version of issue #34. I installed Trimless specifically to have clipped messages actually show in full without having to click "View entire message", and that's not happening in Firefox. I've also installed it in Chrome, and the same two messages are fully "unclipped" in Chrome as expected, so it's specifically Firefox. The scissors icon is red in both browsers. Version is current, browser and gmail tab have been restarted a few times, etc. Basic Gmail, not a custom domain. I'm getting a decent amount of output in the console, so I'll wait for confirmation that it's necessary before sending. (Would you prefer screenshots or text?) This is Firefox Quantum 59.0 (64-bit)

updating for e10s electrolysis in firefox?

Is there any chance this great utility can be updated for e10s electrolysis compatibility with firefox?

The current version gives a lot of "unsafe CPOW usage" warnings in the browser console, indicating that it is doing something that can cause trouble with e10s.

Trimming just replies or forwards

It would be great if trimless had 3 modes.

  • on
  • off
  • on for message not replies or forwards (defined by the subject)

Obviously there is some l10n complexities but this could be handled by letting users supply a list of subject prefixes to ignore.

Trimless still not working??

Just installed the extension and restarted Chrome but no change - still have the uber-annoying ellipsis/trimmed content in every email.

HELP!!!

Add message unclipping

Can be observed in very long messages, like NY Times daily headlines. Here's what it looks like:

Message clipped

Add a toggle button

Sometimes trimming is actually useful; extension should be disabled by default

Poor performance

Slows down the client in quite a noticeable way. A possible workaround would be to create just one timer and execute untrim every second or so, and pause the timer if no events (like page navigation, mouse click, or even a key press) occurred in the last ten seconds, for example.

Trimless stopped working?

It seems like Trimless stopped working with one of the recent updates of GMail or Chrome. Right? Is it still working for others?

1.10.4 Inconsistent

Thanks for all the work on 1.10.4 and the new Gmail. However, I am finding that it shows trimmed content on some of my emails but I still get the "show trimmed content" on some. What is even more confusing is that sometimes if I close and reopen the later emails, all the content is shown.

trimmed content in pop out email reply window

Hi-
I'm hoping to automatically show trimmed content in the pop-out gmail reply window. Was hoping this extension would do that. If it is supposed to do that, would you have any suggestions for how I could get it to work? I'm on the Brave Version 0.64.76 Chromium: 74.0.3729.157 (Official Build) (64-bit). Thanks.

Add keyboard shortcuts

Including a hotkey to toggle trimming on the currently selected message (B, for example).

Trimless trims the whole email

This issue keeps creeping up and then suddenly disappears only to resurface again later. In these cases not only trimless doesn't untrim, it actually trims the whole email. I have to turn it off in order to be able to see the trimmed (and sometimes untrimmed) email. This occurs with Chrome and doesn't seem to occur with Firefox. It became so bad that I had to remove the extension completely from Chrome. I don't know if there is some conflict between extensions. Suggestions?

Manifest V3 Compatibility

Good morning,

I am the Browser Product Owner for Airbus Defence and Space, and am contacting in regards to the upcoming Manifest V3 Extensions migration due to occur early 2024.

Please can you confirm the Trimless for Google Mail™ Extension is Manifest V3 Compliant and get back to me as soon as possible?

Kind Regards,
Ethan Jerrum

Not working?

Hi there,

I absolutely love this extension as most of my emails have been clipped by gmail for some time. Unfortunately, a few days ago the extension seemed to stop working, and my emails are being clipped again. Is there any reason this might be happening and/or is there a fix planned?

Thanks.
