Food Vision Project

Overview

The Food Vision project leverages the Food101 dataset, a comprehensive collection of 101,000 images spanning 101 distinct food categories, to build an image classification model. The objective is to accurately classify images of various food items using advanced deep learning techniques.

Transfer Learning Approach

To enhance the model's performance, we utilize Transfer Learning, a powerful technique where a pre-trained model, trained on a large dataset, is fine-tuned on a specific task. This approach significantly reduces training time and improves accuracy, especially when dealing with limited data.

Implementation Steps

  1. Data Preparation:

    • Load the Food101 dataset.
    • Preprocess images, including resizing, normalization, and augmentation, to increase the dataset's variability and robustness.
  2. Model Selection:

    • Choose a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, such as ResNet50 or EfficientNet, known for its high performance on image classification tasks.
  3. Transfer Learning:

    • Replace the final layer of the pre-trained model with a new fully connected layer that matches the number of classes in the Food101 dataset.
    • Freeze the weights of the initial layers to retain the learned features.
