Change the default pkg repository from quarterly to latest

sudo sed -ip 's/quarterly/latest/g' /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf

Update packages (it will first download the pkg repo from latest)

secondly it will upgrade any installed packages.

sudo pkg upgrade -y

Install the bash shell and bash completion

sudo pkg install -y bash bash-completion

Configure bash

touch /usr/home/.bashrc

sudo echo '[[ $PS1 && -f /usr/local/share/bash-completion/bash_completion.sh ]] && ' >> /usr/home/$user_/.bashrc
sudo echo 'source /usr/local/share/bash-completion/bash_completion.sh' >> /usr/home/$user_/.bashrc

Add some aliases so bash isn't totally dumb

echo 'alias ll="ls -lah"' >> /usr/home/$user_/.bashrc
echo "alias la='ls -A'" >> /usr/home/$user_/.bashrc
echo "alias l='ls -CF'" >> /usr/home/$user_/.bashrc

Change the shell for a specific user

sudo chsh -s /usr/local/bin/bash $user_

Now do this:

mount -t fdescfs fdesc /dev/fd

and append: "fdesc /dev/fd fdescfs rw 0 0" to the end of -> /etc/fstab

Note: Do not change the default shell of the root user.
