Need a service that has a counter

As a User
I need a service that has a counter
So that I can keep track of how many times something was done

Details and Assumptions

• Need a way to increment a counter
• Need a way to get the current value

Acceptance Criteria

Given I have incremented the counter to 2
When I make a call to get the current value
Then it should return 2 as the counter value

Must allow multiple counters

As a User
I need multiple counters
So that I can keep track of several counts at once

Deploy service to the cloud

As a Service Provider
I need I need the counter service to be deployed to the cloud
So that I can scale capacity with user demand

Details and Assumptions

• In future the demand for the counter service will increase with more customers signed up
• Initial deployment will not be in the cloud
• We will use the IBM Cloud
• Deploy as a Cloud Foundry app (Containers and Kubernetes)

Acceptance Criteria

Given the current server performance slows and continually throws 502 errors
When the counter service is deployed to the cloud
Then server ceases to throw errors

Given I have deployed to the cloud
When a customer comes to our URL
Then our service will be available

Need the ability to update a counter to a new value

As a System Administrator
I need to be able to update the counter to a new value
So that I can always start the counter from any desired value

Details and Assumptions

• Use the action POST /counters/{name}/update={new value}

Acceptance Criteria

Given the counter has advanced to 2
When I call update on a particular name with a new value of 5
Then I should see 5 returned for that name

Need the ability to remove a counter

As a User
I need the ability to remove a counter
So that I can terminate a counter I no longer need at any time

Must persist counter across restarts

As a Service Provider
I need the counter service to persist the last known count
So that users don't lose track of their counts after the service is restarted

Details and Assumptions

• We will use a Redis database
• Counter will be stored as a name-value pair

Acceptance Criteria

Given I have incremented the counter to 2
When I restart the service
Then the counter should still return 2

Counters can be reset

As a System Administrator
I need the ability to reset the counter
So that I can start counting something new

Details and Assumptions

• Use the action POST /counters/{name}/reset
• Database will always allow a 0 in the value field and not "null"

Acceptance Criteria

Given the counter has advanced to 5
When I call reset on the service
And I request the current counter
Then I should see 0 returned from the service
