awesome-unfinished's Introduction

Awesome Unfinished Awesome

A curated list of awesome but forever unfinished works and projects.

Unfinished refers to any awesome work or project that can be consumed but can never be completed. This can refer to a TV show, a book series, a symphony, a video game, or any other substantial effort that was at least partially avaiable to the public or community but all further work has been halted permanently.

Unfinished is not any work or project that is still in development, has activity upstream or downstream, is related to a book series where the author is still alive, or any other situation where the possibility for that work or project to resume activity in its current state still exists.

If you are unsure if something is actually unfinished just submit an issue and we'll help investigate!

INVESTIGATION: Star Wars 1313

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_1313

A friend of mine was a developer on Star Wars 1313 at Lucas Arts prior the purchase by Disney. While the game itself was never released, prototypes of the grapple/climb/walk/engage system were playable, as were rendered scenes for some levels.

Since this was cancelled, it does fall under "unfinished", but since the rest of the world besides the developers never even had a chance to see it, does it still count as unfinished?

[FEATURE] Standardize format for entries in each category

After reviewing multiple awesome lists, especially highly viewed non-development ones like Awesome Sci-Fi and Awesome Fantasy, I have decided that I think awesome lists are better when each entry is as concise and yet descriptive as possible without using more than 1-2 sentences. I also like it when badges/icons/images are used to denote information as long as they're not too aggressive.

For now I am going to propose the following as a standard entry format for each item. This should be reviewed as the list grows.

[TITLE](URL) (year(s)) - Awesome_description_here. {REFERENCE_AND_UNFINISHED_REASON_BADGES}

or

[TITLE](URL) - Awesome_description_here. {REFERENCE_AND_UNFINISHED_REASON_BADGES}

Badges are still under investigation but I'm happy to use some if anyone has any in mind.

INVESTIGATION - Mythos

What is the item that is possibly unfinished?
Mythos

What is a main reference URL?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythos_(video_game)

Why do you think this is unfinsihed?
Game was very playable (I have dozens of screenshots from my time in it) but still in a beta state when the company was dissolved and assets sold to other companies. The servers and related services were terminated.

[FEATURE] Add badges for links and unfinished reasons

Need badges for unfinished reasons. Each badge should be simple but convey reasons and multiple badges/reasons can exist for a single entry. Here's a few I'm spitballing but of course there are likely dozens:

  • show cancelled
  • set/costumes sold/destroyed
  • author deceased
  • critical dependency sunset
  • only viable host permanently disabled
  • DCMA or other copyright-related takedowns
  • Corporate merger
  • made illegal

test issue

What is the item that is possibly unfinished?
The name of the work or project.

What is a main reference URL?
Provide a URL to a real reference page either from the creator/developer/author/artist or to Wikipedia or similar.

Why do you think this is unfinsihed?
Provide your explanation is as clear terms as possible
