Try removing the prefix folder, running the game to generate a new one, then running the script again but without -proton.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did as you instructed. Loading the autosave for the gas station still crashes the game. I started a new game where I managed to get past the gas station. The cutscene after that escape started, but the game crashed while it was playing. One additional thing I did was to grant executable rights to the file mfplat.dll

For comparison, here is the output of running install-mf-64.sh without the -proton option:

I tried now several times to run the game, but I think it is in an unplayable state. It crashes either instantly after the truck cutscene or within the first few seconds of the cutscene that plays after the gas station.

I used Gentoo for years and I don't miss it.

Arch has the same ability to build/edit packages that integrate into the package manager, but the rest of the system is the exact same binaries that I know 1000s of other people are using.
