Adding or have Partition Lag? about cmak

Since consumer group offset tracking was in the process of being changed in 0.8.2, we didn't add it. Also, there were already tools available to track consumer offsets. However, it may not be difficult to add. But we also did not want the tool to require a datastore. It's probably best to track offsets through a monitoring tool.

We may be able to add a "watch" option where you can watch the offsets for a period of time but the data wouldn't be retained for later lookup, so we don't have to worry about storing it. Would that be enough?

I would love to see any sort of offset/lag monitoring implementation, the best would ofcourse be retention of some sort, but I am trying to find a way to shoot those statistics into my statsd setup, unrelated to this project though :)
