I just did a test, and Webmin does use forward slashes already when adding a CIFS share to /etc/fstab .

Very strange. I am using the latest version of Webmin, so it says when I attempt to upgrade from Webmin itself. I am using Ubuntu 13.10 with everything up to date via APT.

If I manually edit anything in fstab, save it and then unmount via Webmin... all my settings in fstab have been erased and the backward slashes are back. Only things that stay static are the IP, user, password and credentials. Everything else get erased once that save button is clicked on a unmount

If you just create a new mount but don't choose to have it mounted right away, does the /etc/fstab entry contain forward or backslashes?

Just tested out a new entry and upon first creating it via Webmin it does input forward slashes into the /etc/fstab. However any changes you make in that entry after the fact and then save it, it changes the forward slashes to back slashes. F'd up. This was all done and changed via webmin, nano to just look and verify. Looks like the issue comes from changing and saving.

Side note: its still using fmask and dmask, which I believe your already aware of and it will be changed in the future.

I just did a fresh install of Linux Mint 15 in VMware. Same situation above. Initial creation is good but after something is changed and then saved, backslashes appear again. Def a bug.

The backslashes do appear for me in the list of mounted filesystems - but I don't see them ever actually appearing in /etc/fstab

Create a mount via webmin, it will show forward slashes upon first creation. Go back in make a change and save in Webmin. Let me know what you see in fstab. I have tried this on two different installs/two different flavors. One fresh install & one non-fresh. Same issues occur on both. I can't be crazy. Or its just a Ubuntu thing.

In your /etc/fstab file, is the filesystem type shown as smbfs or cifs ?

evil666 avatar evil666 commented on June 12, 2024

CIFS
SMBFS isn't even an option I can find in the drop down box in Webmin.

Ok, I see the bug now - this will be fixed in the next Webmin release. Thanks for your persistence!

Thank you for proving that I am not insane or some sort of noob. Can't wait for next update. Thank you for your time.
