We think this is because we are using the REST API not the supported WebSockets API.

We should not use the REST API for speech recognition. The speech-ios-sdk that we will be replacing once this is complete is using web sockets along with some other nice features like audio re-sampling

We're working on the transition to WebSockets and will no longer be using the REST API.
