Not only does WinSparkle use "native styles", it actually uses (unlike, say, Qt) the real thing — the truly native Windows controls. And that's your problem right there: the native controls have the old compatibility look unless your executable opts-in to use visual styles, as required since the old days of Windows XP.
Because this opt-in is per-executable/process and WinSparkle is a DLL living inside your process, it's something that WinSparkle.dll
can't do on its own, you have to do it.
If you try the example app included with WinSparkle, you will see that it does indeed use visual styles correctly and that the problem is specific to your app. That's because the example includes the necessary manifest.
