I am sure that this worked not so long ago. I wonder if this is due to a change in macOS Ventura? Can anyone test on an older system?

It seems that Vienna's help book isn't indexed anymore or the index is not working. When you try searching for keywords in the help viewer it will show no results. I suspect that the "anchors" rely on this index too.

I confirm it works on macOS Monterey (12.6)

Under ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd/Generated I do find the directory org.vienna-rss.Vienna.help*3.8.7 /15608906/. Is this folder also present in Monterey? I wonder if the ":15608906:" part of the version string is causing trouble, although it seems that Finder escapes the colons with slashes.

I have identical ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd/Generated/org.vienna-rss.Vienna.help\*3.8.7\ \:15608906\: folders in Monterey and Ventura

In Info.plist, shouldn't CFBundleHelpBookName be set to uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2.help ? It's currently set to Vienna Help.

Apple's documentation is horribly inconsistent/unclear here:

  1. "Help Book identifier" (implying the bundle identifier)
  2. "The name of the help file to display when Help Viewer is launched for the bundle" (meaning "Vienna.help"?)
  3. "The main help page for your app. This key identifies the name of the Help page, which may not correspond to the name of the HTML file. The Help page name is specified in the CONTENT attribute of the help fileโ€™s META tag."
  4. "The value associated with this key should be a string specifying the help book title, as defined by the AppleTitle tag in the title page of the book."

See:

I am assuming that Vienna correctly uses 4), namely the content of <meta name="AppleTitle" content="Vienna Help"/> in the Vienna.html file.

I did find this up-to-date blog post about Apple Help: https://marioaguzman.wordpress.com/2020/09/12/auth/. Maybe we can learn something from this.
