Also, in describing the field attribute of value references, the array ['data', 'price'] is given as an example, where I believe the strings should be double-quoted to be valid JSON.

Double-quotes aside, that particular piece of documentation is stale. Field references now use dot notation. I've updated the documentation to fix the above errors. Thanks!
