Well, I will certainly add it to the init for the PyMca5 version, but the problem is you do not have a common import to check. I mean, in one everything is under PyMca...... and the other one under PyMca5..... So, in any case you will not be able to manage without handling an ImportError exception.
It was on purpose to have two different namespaces in order to allow people to have a simultaneous installation of both packages in order to keep older software running. In any case, PyQwt and/or Qwt5 is going to be removed from the main linux distributions and transition will speed up. Analytical secondary excitation corrections are already working in PyMca5 (+ fisx) so, the transition will certainly be worth the effort.

Done it.
Added PyMca5.version and PyMca5.version()
import PyMca5
PyMca5.version()
from pymca.
Well, the underscore before and after the PyMca5 version attribute got removed by the parser, but I guess you'll figure it out.
