Not 100% sure, maybe this is related to a race condition of some sort? I get it to happen on Linux but 1% of the time?

Windows is busted. Text effects don't seem to work, ANSI codes may not be supported, and arrow keys are totally busted.
For now, we always use the Virtual Terminal for windows as a workaround, but it would be nice to fix this in the future.
