Setting status outside of worker scope about sidekiq-status

You can get a status of a job with sidekiq-status API.

status = Sidekiq::Status.status(job_id)

Regarding setting job status. I don't recommend updating job status while job is in progress because your status will be overwritten by the status of a job after execution (the same it will be for expire time) and I don't see any reasons for changing job status after it is finished. During job execution you can manipulate with the message. By using second argument to the at method. Like: at 5, "some msg" And you can then retrieve it by calling: Sidekiq::Status.message(job_id). I recommend to you reading the project README.

If you want to store some extra data, why not to just store it in different hash in redis with a key based on the jid? Like: $redis.hmset("#{jid}:info", {some: "extra", details: true}) Then you will have control over the expire time and details stored there.

Thanks @RaVbaker, I think the $redis.hmset("#{jid}:info", {some: "extra", details: true}) is indeed the best solution for my use case. It's simple and keeps the 2 issues separate.
