We aren't planning on adding sass support at the time being. It would be a pain to have to duplicate work -- and if we did do sass... then why not stylus? And why not all the other awesome preprocessors?

This might change in the future when feature works slows down and the lib gets more stable -- but for now we have too much to do.

That said -- there's nothing stopping you from porting this over to sass and maintaining your own version :)

If I had the techincal ability to port it I would but I don't sadly. I also
believe Sass has a bigger userbase than stylus everyone that develops with
RoR is probably using Sass. That being said and from others that commented
its defintely worth looking @.

If you check our wiki, there's already a port of bootstrap to sass from one of the sass contribs i believe.

Main reason is that Sass is now part of Rails core, and likely to get a good deal of uptake as people start using Rails or migrate apps to 3.1. Having this be part of the official Bootstrap repo, over using the port, would be the recognition of Sass as a first class commitment from the official maintainers.
