@Ornias1993 Thanks, sorry to bother you, guys, I was just blind with that extra key. And also for confirming about the subcharts.

Dont worry about the bother...
But please next time file a support ticket instead, github issues are really just for things that are with some certainty a coding mistake.

I could not really find much about it except that sometimes the charts use one another as subcharts.

Yeah, but then we set that up (which we're also planning to move away from) which means we're also on the hook for making sure it works with that specific chart.

Maybe it should be stated in the docs about the subcharts that it is not a supported feature. Searching for "subchart" only leads here: https://truecharts.org:2053/development/chart-yaml-structure/#layout-explained

To be clear:
Its technically supported (which means possible), its simply not within our support scope to get help with it if it doesn't play nice. Thats what "supported" means.

What is supported is only what is covered in our guides really and basic setup steps.

We obviously don't test if every chart plays nice being ran as a sub-chart, because we don't write them to be used as such.
We write self-contained helm charts.

Simply put:
If you want to modify a chart, that is completely acceptable and have fun at it.
But we don't have the staff to offer help help with anything except basic-setup.

I don’t recall service-name being an actual property.

You have to set enabled field under main (either false or true)
If it’s the only service you also want to set it as primary true
But it should show a cleaner error indeed

Actually it is probably going to be fixed with
truecharts/library-charts#820

(its coming from the serviceList which should only be used in scale)

@stavros-k Ahhh, I see! Now that I look at it, the property should not have been there. I was experimenting with various mosquitto charts in my homelab and this was probably a leftover. All the time I thought that the issue was with the main service somewhere.

@vsigler A few notes:

  • We don't guarantee our helm-charts can be ran as subcharts (thats not within our official support scope)
  • service-name: mosquitto indeed doesn't eixst as an option
  • and its indenting would be wrong anyway.
