Also now that the ./configure script is gone, how do I compile this? It is also still in extra-source-files in cabal.

There is no difference between the version on Hackage and github, I just forgot to add a tag.
The configure script is never included in the source repo, since that is automatically generated. It is just included with the Hackage release so the user doesn't need to have auto tools installed. Just run autoconf from the root directory to generate it.

It'll now try running autoconf first if the configure script is missing, so you don't need to do anything at all.
